steering play

I am getting play in the steering box. It has power steering. All the tie rod ends and ball joints, etc. are new. I shake the front wheels by hand and I can see the play coming from the steering box. Is it possible to adjust that play out of the box somehow ? Or does it need to be totaly replaced ?

The only "adjustment" you can make to the steering box is the "effort" or "feel" and I wouldn't reccommend playing with that.
Is the steering shaft moving when you shake the wheels back and forth? If it is you probably need a new rag joint. The most common failure for the steering boxes themselves is leakage from worn seals.

I will take a pic of the area and point out where its moving. On top of the steering box, theres a allen set screw. What does that do ? It will take me about a week til' I can get the pics posted. Thanks.

The allen screw is for adjusting the effort.
