Time to get mustang ready for smog testing.Car started running rough (like on 2 cyls) after driving approximately 10 miles. Bought a scanner and had 2 code -- TPS and EGR-- replaced both items; car still had same symptoms. Did tune up -- cap, rotor, plugs and so forth. Same troubles;measured coil -- primary was 1. ohm, secondary was 9.3. any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. ( I forgot to mention-- 1988 2.3l FI) Ok, new day another dollar.Replaced ICM and ign coil, made no differance other than started acting up quicker. Decided to give it a day of rest (the car and myself).

Thanks for the input, but unfortunately I've all ready checked and re-checked everything under the hood.I went back to the basics and you would be surprised with what I have found.Today I go one more step and I think the trouble will be gone.:eek2:

:uhoh: well, took the car for a ride.Ran GREAT till it warmed up (about 3 miles), started sputtering (holding back) when pedal was applied. noticed some oil on throttle plate :frown: shaft so now i'm thinking valve stem seal bad and fouling plug(s) on accelleration (idles with no problem).find out tomorrow.

:screwy: forget the valve stem seal idea (bad pcv), but drove down the road and back, ran great till I parked and let it idle. Started running really rough. Hooked up scanner again---no codes? got to feeling around moving things---nothing? Shut it down and restarted--- ran for 1 1/2 hours w/just a slight miss? Not making much sense :screwy:

If you have the firing order correct... except turning in the opposite direction on the distributor cap, it would be running on two cyls.

:screwy: don't know what happened, the car is running great now, passed the smog test with the best numbers I've seen for this car since I've owned it. Time to sell though, looking at a NICE T-Bird.
