What would be involved, if anything could be done, in making myself a copy of this beast?

I love the styling of it, and it's got the performance figures I'm shooting for anyways. (no GP yet, I hope to have my GTP by the end of the year)

Anybody have any ideas? The only thing I can come up with is a bunch of custom (EXPENSIVE) body work to add the flares.

It looks like just a bunch of sheet metal work as you stated. The hood is probably fiberglass and the flares were added. The wheels and tires look to be at least 18's and much wider than stock especially in the rear. You will have to factor all these things as well as a paint job. Just had my GTP painted. Installed a new hood, spoiler and front valance. Shaved everything and new wheels and tires. Cost $6500 and I got a great price on the paint job from a local guy.

That picture is of an AWD V-8 concept car, so it's all cusom fab, not a kit of any kind.

It's the 300 GPX, front wheel drive with a 300-horse 3800-II under the hood.
http://grandprix.net/limited/gpx_article.html There's all the info. I wish it were AWD and V8, that'd be sweetness incarnate.

But yeah, I knew it'd likely have to be all custom. So the only option would probably be lots of sheetmetal work, huh. Would getting the panels and fenders be hard? As in, if I wanted to get a second set to work on, rather than remove the ones from the car.

I've seen a picture of an AWD V-8 concept that looked just like that, but a more fire-mist red color. If you read the text of the article you linked, that car is a pre-production 97-up model Grand Prix Concept, and the predecessor to the GTP and GTX production models. Minus the big wheels and flares, it IS a 97 GTP (as mentioned in the article), which could easily be modded for more than the HP levels they claim.

Indeed. And I found the AWD V8 one you were talking about, it was called the G8 back in the late 90's, don't know if it's still around. But it had an LS-1 in it, it was a coupe, and it did have the fender flares.

As far as me, I basically want the looks of the GPX because I think it's much more aggressive looking than the 97+ GTP/GTX models. And since my future plans are for a 300-350hp intercooled 3800, I figured why not shoot for a replica, if it'd be possible.

I did find a fender flare kit however, but I don't think they are as pronounced as the GPX's.

The black coupe on that page looks so bad-assed to me. make it a sedan and that's the looks I'm shooting for, pretty much. Probably molded in though, what do you think?

I think it would look sharp, especially painted to match. Also, if you could feather in the edges and eliminate the seam, it would look even better.

Yeah, good example is the sliver/blue sedan on the page as well, very smooth and clean looking. But what's wrong with the doors on it, they had the crease smoothed or something right? Or might those be 04+ doors?

It looks like they custom molded the flare to the door as well, since that seam comes so close to the wheel well. They definitely did a nice job on that car. If you decide to get a GTP, and do the flares, make sure you post us a pic, we'll want to see it.

Sure thing. Only thing that stands in my way of getting the GTP is gas prices, I car-pool all the time and put a lot of city miles on my car.
