another4l60e problem!!! need help!!!!!!please!!!!!!

:banghead: I have a 97 Gmc K1500 with over 150,000 miles, and 80,000 of it on a rebuilt transmission. About a month ago the reverse gear started to slip, of course after a few more miles the slippage has progressed. Now, when I shift to reverse the engine starts to sputter, reverse tries to engage but not fully. Every once in a while it will engage with the right amount of rpm's and stay there until I let off the gas. When it stays engaged I feel that maybe the transmission is not at fault, but I'm not a transmission guy so what do I know? :screwy: However, I'm interested in knowing a little more about the transmission and I am thinking about tearing into this box of mystery and headaches. I'm hopeing there is somebody that has gone through the same experience, and can cast a little light on the subject, or can suggest a good and inexpensive repair manual that will hold my hand threw the thick and thin.

Welcome to AF, your description of the problem does not point necessarily point to a trans problem . The engine starts to "sputter", this is not indicative of a trans problem, have a pro look at this for a more comprehensive diagnosis.

Welcome to AF, your description of the problem does not necessarily point to a trans problem . The engine starts to "sputter", this is not indicative of a trans problem, have a pro look at this for a more comprehensive diagnosis. Of course check the level and condition of the fluid.

I checked the fluid level and it checks out ok. Is it possible that one of the solenoids, switches, or valves is sticking and is it possible to check a few things without pulling the transmission?

Hey Max your a mod now!!!!! But, don't condem the tranny yet find out why the engine sputters. If you want you can drop the pan and see whats on the bottom of it. Thats about the only cheap option. 1 filter 1 gasket 6qts of ATF.
