97 Geo Metro 1.3 no hot start

OK, the car will crank just fine. Usually it starts just fine, unless you drive the car for a while. If you let it sit and heat up under the hood, no start. Lift the hood and wait five minutes, starts up.

I replaced the wires and air filter, no change.
I replaced the coolant temp sensor, no change.

Gave up, took it to a shop. The shop said that the injector was reaching 11 ohms of resistance when hot. While looking at the car, the mechanic noticed the water pump had drowned the crank positioning sensor, replaced it.

The mechanic reccomended the injector and injector harness. He then mentioned there is a relay in the ecm which could also be going bad.

I replaced the water pump, timing belt, injector, and the injector harness.

The car has become more reliable, starts more often. The problem is ocassional now, but still occurrs. Mind you, before, the car would refuse to start nearly every time. Now it is less often. Only seems to happen when it is over 95 degrees outside.

Strange though, I could swear it is running funny on occasion. It seems to stutter a little at part throttle.

So, should I replace the ecm? Or no? Any other suggestions?

BTW, thanks for the responses to my timing belt posts.

i would check for spark next time it refuses to start. i would suspect the dist or the ignition module

It definitely has spark, checked that before I gave up and went to the mechanic.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

When I jiggle the negative wire to the fuel injector connector, the engine dies. The wire is missing the little rubber grommet, and I have repeated the test four times with the exact same results. The more I jiggle the wire, the more the engine reacts, eventually resulting in an engine stall.

So, seems like I have nailed the issue.

Anybody have a good idea where I can get my hand on this sort of thing? Is this a standard GM weather pak connector?

My 97 Geo used to start fine cold but if I drove somewhere and let it sit for a few minutes it wouldn't start...wait another hour or so and it started no problem. If this is what yours is doing..the problem was a coil in the throttle body was overheating. I replaced the throttlebody with an aftermarket part and have not had a problem since. Hope this helps!
