Have you ever seen how much money they make on the banner ads though?

http://www.automotiveforums.com/corporate/advertising.php

10,000 a year for one companys banner ad. I have seen many differnet banner ads up there and can say that if they are grossing over 50,000 a year on just those then their server shouldn't be crashing as much as it does... I've been happy to see that its been a lot better than it used to be but its still a little odd. I wanna know exactly what all that money goes towards, cause I'm sure it doesn't cost that much money to keep the server and such running. :2cents:

With 473,000 members, over half a million threads and 4.2 million posts. I can understand it. The server is not cheap or small by any means.

Advertising is the name of the game. People are willing to pay top dollar for it when its on one of the worlds largest multi auto forum.

Do you really suppose they have over 50k invested in just their server though?... I assumed that another company took care of it all and it would be upon them to maintain a stable server. Then again, if they have their own building set up with their own server stacks and everything then no it wouldn't be cheap at all. As for the amount of members... I imagine almost half of those were noobs that signed up for 2 days and then left with no intentions of returning. :2cents:

The fact is, they make plenty of money off the adversiting that we already have. No need to fill up the screen with useless crap, we have noobs for that.

Yeah, they do seem to be rackin in quite a bit of money, but I'm pretty sure Igor is somewhere in the Europe. If you click on the AF member map, I think hes from the Ukraine. Maybe that $10,000 doesnt go very far over there.

It used to be, not so much anymore. It is widely accepted though, foriegn countries love getting U.S. money because they know nomatter where you go, you can spend it.

Yeah, I think most of the modern nations over there have "more powerful" money. For example, when I was in Norway there was a sidewalk sale in one of the towns. A normal sale price for a pair of jeans over there is $100.
