hello everyone, i am thinking about doing an engine swap for my gen5 celica, and instead of going for the 3s-gte (because i will be killed with the insurance, cos i live in aus) i was wondering if i can swap in the 3s-ge beams, i tried lookin on google but nothing much came up. would this engine fit right in my car or not? if it doesnt the 3rd gen 3s-ge is the best one isnt it?

yea, itll fit no problem. of course there will be wiring and ecu issues as with any swap though. as far as insurance, i doubt there will be a diffrence. hell i wouldnt even tell them my car had a non stock engine as they prolly wont cover it anways. i think the beams has 210ish hp and a 3rd gen 3sge has like 195.

so is there a big performance difference between the 3rd gen ge and the beams. because the beams is a fair bit more expensive ive been told.

there are 2 different types of the BEAMS 3SGE. One has a red top and the other is black. I think the black top has vvti and generates more power, but it might be the red one. They are on ebay from time to time. run a search there for is300 altezza and it should bring up at least one. there are two on ebay right now. They put out like 210 hp... not bad for a n\a four cylinder.

yea everyone brags how amazing hondas k20 engine is in the rsx, but hell toyota had one just as good and came out earlier. plus everyone thinks the evo8 and sti are the shit but the st205 gt4 has similar capabilities and came out almost 10 years earlier not to mention its won more wrc races. they really should have gave us the same stuff in the states as they had in japan and europe. instead of mag editors dissing the 6th gen for its wimpy 135hp they would have been praising it with a 200hp 3sge/260hp 3sgte. maybe the celica would still be around.......

i'll still stand by the 7th gen needing the LSD standard on the GT-S. The Beams to me is better than the K20 for the fact that they both has similiar HP rating, but the yota seems to have a slightly better power band, probably not a big difference, but at least it's there on paper.
But I think most of you are forgetting that a 3rd gen 3S is iron while a 4th gen 3S is aluminum.

i thought so, but i guess its a subconscious thing for when you write 3s-ge your mind knows that there is a t there so away it goes. anyway, is the red top or the black top betta? would they both get it on with my celica (as in ok for fwd) ? this will be a very noticable improvement from my 5s-fe with 203,574KM on it wont it? should i replace my tranny and/or clutch or wear em out first?

should be ok for FWD they were on other FWD cars, but I don't know if they bolt up to your tranny.

Uh.... Why even consider an engine swap with the prices of GT4s at the moment?? An engine swap, especially with a beams engine is a waste of money.
a beams swap would be... say $2000? (no idea just a figure to make my point.) Sell you Celica for $6000 and BUY A GT4! You can pick one up for as little as $7500 in the eastern states. (http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.private_vehicle?total_rec=19&search_distance=25&vehicle_id=2930924&model_id=31&badge_id=11463&state_id=-1¤t_rec=15&search_type=21&used_rec=2&make_id=8) Getting it shipped to Darwin wont cost that much. Insurance isnt that bad on GT4s. I was 21 when I first bought my GT4 and insurance was only $749 a year though JUST CAR INSURANCE (http://www.justcarinsurance.com.au/). The insurance on having a car with a swapped engine will be more than a GT4.
And a GT4 is just a much better car all round.

thats actually a good idea yaggus, it would be better than an engine swap and i can get one in australia plus ill also get the AWD with it and no worries. ill check into the car insurance (im using that one atm with my celica) for the gt4.

Good luck with it dude. Let us know how it all goes.

They are pretty rare in Australia too. But they are cheap though. They arent nearly as common as crappy skylines and silvias....

Its not that I dont like Nissan. I had a 300zx which I loved and I am well fond of the S15's. But there are sooooooo many skylines, 180sxs' and S13 Silvias over here and everyone who drives one is a dickhead that thinks they are the hottest thing since sliced bread. Those cars are just waaaayy too common for me. Same as a WRX. We just have different cars over here. I like something that not many ppl have. GTOs (3000gts) are rare, as are GT4s. 300zxs were rare until they changed the import laws. Now there are heaps. I like to be different. Its really hard to stand out in a Skyline, Silvia or a WRX because everyone has them.

I sold my cars because I went around the world for 6 months :smokin: And I needed to fund the trip somehow.
I came back with $17,000ish still though so I am in a decent position to buy another car.
At the moment I am driving a toyota startet. :gay: (its a little 1.3L 4cyl bubble car) It was cheap reliable and fuel efficient which suited me till I got my feet back on the ground and got myself a respectable job. Now i've done that, im in the market for a new car or 2. I am going halves in a car for my girlfriend for her 21st so that will eat up a chunk of money and with the remaining money, I hope to get a Carlos Sainz GT4 for myself. Carlos Sainz, 240Z or a mini.... thats the choices :smokin:

My gf has nothing in mind as she knows nothing about it. :smokin:
Her parents are going halvesish, (me 3/4 and them 1/4) on a car. One of the few cars she actually likes is an SW20 MR2. So thats what Ill be getting her. Ideally I would like it to be a 94+turbo but they are quite hard to find in Australia. I looked at a 99 nonturbo today, it was ok, nothing special. It had been sitting for a while and its reasonably cheap at ~$17,000 but there is a 97 nonturbo with Harlequin paint on it going for $15,000 that I want to have a look at.
And there is a 94 turbo over east ($1,300 for shippin it over) going for REALLY cheap, but it is in pretty shabby condition. But I have until November 14th to find the right one!!
