I am as big of a fan of the shelby as you can be, but the Z06 wins any performance category hands down.

The GT500 would lose even to a base C6 with Z51 package on a track, and would be absolutely destroyed by a Z06. I do like the looks of the GT500 better, but not for a performance car; it's way too heavy, has too much mass up front, and has a live rear axle.

C&D compared the GT500 to the Z51, and the Vette completely dominated in virtually every category.

I have that issue and I would more say that it edged it out in most. The vette definately won but it wasn't like it destroyed it. The Z06 would be a different story, that would be destruction in every category.

Mustang and Corvette are in completely different classes in the first place.

id definitley pass on the gt500, id rather take a stock mustang gt add a supercharger kit and do some suspension work and have a faster car(track and drag) and still have spent under 35k, especially after the stories i hear of dealers marking up prices 10k over msrp.

I would still call you crazy for taking a hotrod GT over a Shelby. The whole car is improved not just the motor.

i know, thats why i said id buy suspension upgrades for the gt. a simple set of eibach springs would prolly make it handle better than the gt500. iknow alot is improved but all the improvements are mostly nullified by the massive weight. 0-60 is only like a 1/2 sec. better than a stock gt even with a 200hp advantage and handling g's are only like .03g better even with an upgraded suspension.

Has the GT500 ditched the Live rear axle? Or are we going to have to wait for the Cobra to do that?

OK it is plan as day the ZO6 totaly ownes the GT500 in every single proformance test but the GT does look WAY SEXY! The only thing that solid rear axle is good for is drag racing and only if you put a four link and drag slicks on it.

Z06. That thing is just awesome! I like the GT500 too, but its just no comparison to the vette.

they make fun of it because leaf springs were first used on old horse drawn carriages back in the 1800s.

The first generation of Corvettes did. This would be from 1953 to 1962.
From 1963 to some point in the late 70's (i think) they had an independent de Dion rear suspension.
