overdrive??

Hello, i have a 95 lumina with 147,000 KMs on it. While flipping through the owners manual, i noticed it said "if your vehicle is equipped with overdrive, use this for everyday driving" so mine has drive and then it has a overdrive gear. So far (had the car 6 months) ive been using regular drive and then using the overdrive when im on the highway..this maybe a stupid question but im curious........also whats the difference between a lumina and a lumina ls?

As a general rule, operating in OD is a good habit. The only reason to ever select a lower gear manually is for hauling heavy loads or towing (to prevent engine lugging), or to limit wheelspin in marginal traction conditions. The hybrid OBD/OBD-II PCM on a '95 does a fairly reasonable job keeping the transmisison in the appropriate range for best mileage and power throughput, even though line pressure is modulated by engine vacuum.

Agreed Blue. There is no reason other than while towing a heavy load, in severe winter weather, or in mountainous terrain to drive around in any gear than overdrive.

so its got regular drive (just the D) and then its got the overdrive D with the box around it...just drive it in that all the time? I only ask because i heard it was bad for the tranny.
