SI Front Grill??

I have a 99 civic dx hatch. I wanted to replace the front grill with a type-r one and was told buy a parts dealer that the SI and the Type-R are really the same, except that the Type-R leaves off the honda emblem (he told me the part numbers were the same). Is this true???

My main question is this: Can I replace the front grill of my civic with the mesh cover of the SI without having to replace the entire front grill? Meaning, can I just buy the mesh piece for an SI and stick in my front grill area without having to buy the molding piece that goes around it? If this is possible, it would cut the cost in half since I am just buying the mesh piece instead of having to replace the entire from grill (the molding and the mesh piece). If you look at the link below, you'll see a picture of the mesh piece and the molding that goes around it.

Actually you can't just get the 'mesh' part from an Si and fit it in the frame of the DX front grille. I got the mesh part because I was told that it would fit just fine and it didn't. The DX holes where the screwes hold it on are circle shaped and the Si are oval shaped. Also, the bottom of the frame part is shaped a bit different so you have to order the frame as well. It seems like it would fit just right, but when you actually get the si grille and the dx frame together, they just don't fit. I know it's really gay, but that's just how they decided to do it. So I am waiting for my si frame to come in at the moment

Doh! Thanks for the info man! Saves me from a headache. Hey, where did you order your grill from? I was thinking of getting it from majestic honda (see link). How much are you getting it for?? Thanks for the reply. Let me know how it turns out when you get it installed! Post some pics!!

Almost forgot to ask one more question: The grill should fit with no problem right??? :D

Sure :)
I actually ordered mine from that same site. They have the best prices for OEM stuff out of any place I've found. Taking out the grille only takes about 5 or 10 minutes to do....there's clips on top and screws on the bottom...then the grille part is held in by a bunch of screws to the frame. I took my other grille out and did the homemade custom mesh thing for a while, then I took it out again and had a white grille and then I painted it red....but I'll post pics when I put the Si one in...should be this week. :)

Thanks :)

Yeah I noticed the color too....i'm hoping it's just because I took that pic when i was washing it and the water was more beaded on it since it's been waxed more recently hehe Plus, it was at sunset so it might be the light reflecting .... I'm hoping at least. :) But I'll take more pics in the sunlight tomorrow.

I got it from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com It's all OEM stuff so it's already painted and ready to go....very cheap for OEM as well. :)
