Pontiac Grand Prix Keyless Remote Issue

Hi, I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP 2 door.

I am currently trouble shooting why my keyless remote is not working. I have done extensive research here already and am still stumped.

I have replaced the Keyless Entry Receiver in the dash (GM part #: 10418726)

I have replaced the batteries in my Keyless Entry Transmitter (GM part #: 10246215)

I have gone through the GM Document ID # 397060 “Transmitter Programming” steps to resynchronize the system but with no success.

I am hearing the receiver enter the programming/diagnostic mode with a chime, but I do not get horn honks or chimes when I press both the LOCK & UNLOCK buttons for 14 seconds.

So the last thing I can think of is the Transmitter is not talking to the Receiver.:banghead:

I have read online that there are multiple Transmitters for the ‘97 to ‘03 model years.

Is it possible that I was given the wrong Transmitter when I bought this car from the used car salesman?:confused:

Also, i need to see what a keyless entry receiver looks like too, i want to remove it and see if that needs replacing, and if so where can i get a new one?? i know its behind the guage cluster right? i just need to know what it looks like, so i know what im looking for

The keyless entry receiver is a 2”x 2” x 1” little black box with a yellow sticker on the top of it. It is not exactly behind the gauge cluster bust behind the Driver Info Center (DIC) that shows your change oil soon, boost gauge and so on.

You can buy a new Keyless Entry Receiver (GM part #: 10418726) at GMpartsdirect.com for $123.23.

To get to it you must remove 4 parts of the dash. First take off the panel directly below the steering wheel. There will be two screws and two plastic poppers near the pedals to take out first. Then gently pull the panel off near the steering wheel, There are 3 metal clips holding it to the dash.

After this you will remove the main plastic dash piece that covers everything from your gauge cluster to your radio. It is held on entirely by these metal clips. I started on the driver side pulling gently but with some strength and working towards the radio and AC controls. Be careful some of the clips may fall back into the dash. I was lucky I only totally lost one. You will also have to unclip the fog light button.

Once this is pulled off there are two screws just like the ones on the first panel that hold the gauge cluster on. Take them out and set the cluster off to the side. Don’t try to unhook any of the wires, its not worth your time.

Then just to the right of the gauge cluster remove the DIC. There are TWO plastic clips on both the right and left side of the DIC. Push the left one in with your hand and pull it out. It should come out really easy.

Directly behind the DIC you should see the yellow sticker of the keyless entry receiver.

On the side of the keyless entry receiver facing you there is a large clip. You may not be able to see it. But all you have to do is reach in pressing this front face away from you and then just lift it up.

It’s really easy; I had it apart and back together in an hour taking my time. Let me know if you have any questions.

The RKE part number appears to be correct. Do you have the content alarm system. Look for the red led around the middle of the dash.

Do you have the 2000 model owner's manual? The procedure for syncronization and entering programming mode is in there. This varies depending on the model year.

Yes I have the content alarm system, does that change the way I' suppose to reprogram it?

The car does everything its suppose to but the transmitter doesn’t seem to be sending a signal.....

Thats what I thought. Most GTPs do have content stock. The manual procedure is correct and I know works since I've done a few 2000 and 2001 models. For content during resync you will need to hear the horn and additional chimes or you will be dead in the water.

It could be the RKE or maybe there is a problem with the body control module (BCM). The RCDLR receiver is just the receiver for the transmitter but the BCM is the brain of the operation.

Needless to say it does. As part of anti-theft Passkey III system it provides the signal to enable fuel injectors via the PCM module, controls retained accessory power (RAP), interior lighting, remote keyless for the power door locks, shift interlock, etc.

It is located at the far left hand side under the dash by the emergency brake.

Hard to say but I would not assume the keyless programming part is working because the other stuff is. Much of it is independent. Normally if you have a problem such as yours the car should be scanned for body/chassis codes but the bad part is a GM dealer's Tech II machine is required to pull the codes, if any. It could be something as simple as a loss of serial data between the BCM module and the RCDLR receiver but you cannot tell without further diagnostics. Also, the dealer is the only one who can program the BCM if there is a firmware (software) problem.

What you can do to rule out a wiring or loose connector problem is remove the driver's side kick panel and make sure the connectors on the BCM are seated properly and tight. Other than that your guess is as good as mine.
