After 17 years of not hearing from my father he is now back in my life and has decided to give me his 62 starfire. I know what the car looks like and have seen it years ago 1987 i believe, but thats about all i know about the car. Are they rare? Is it hard to find parts for them? It is a complete car and runs fine but I'm sure it will need some restoration. Can you take some parts from other olds, like dash pads etc... Is there a parts catalog availible? Thanks MIKE

Nice car, get a Hemmings news book, look at the parts availability and suppliers listed for the car. The Olds engine stands alone in those years, there were 2 transmissions, both interchangeable with other large GM bodies, parts are somewhat rare especially any trim or sheet metal.

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure all the trim and sheet metal is there and in good shape. Thanks again for the advice.

I would love to have a 62 Starfire. I used to have a 62 Dynamic 88 that I bought from my Dad, I wished I would have kept it - it was awesome, even though it was a family type of car. The Starfire had the same 394 ci engine, but it had a 4 barrel carb and high compression heads as well. Awesome vehicles - want to sell yours?

I'm not gonna sell it. I'm very excited to get it. I own a 69 mach 1 Mustang and i have hot rodded the hell out of it. Its fast and i love it, but the 62 olds starfire is gonna be a great cruiser. I don't have it yet but i will by next summer. I will have to sell some of my other projects tho just to make room.

I had a '62 Starfire convertible years ago. The big ticket item on those was all the exterior stailness steel trim. If those are in good shape the rest is minor details. Those cars also had a vacuum operated trunk and I believe vent windows.
