Hi all i am having a problem with my 2000 gmc sierra 1500. The other night i was driving up a decently steep hill and i notice that the service engine light is flashing wildly and about 1 minute after i noticed this the truck began to loose power and started running very rough. the engine seemed to be vibrating quite a bit so i pulled over and turned off the truck. i proceeded to wait a few minutes before trying to start it again and when i did i got the same results, the truck started but ran very rough so i shut it down again and after that the truck will not fire up again. when i try to turn it on you can haere the starter crank but it will not fire. also on the dashboard now the little box that indicates what gear you are in does not appear over any of the gear options. I know that the truck had a bad fuel gauge probably caused by a bad sending unit. Perhaps i just ran the truck too low on gas because of the broken gauge and fried the fuel pump?
I havent had any past problems with the truck so i have no idea what could be wrong.
thanks for your time

I would start by checking the ecm for codes. If your check engine light came on then there will be at least one code stored. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?
