Bodykits+Lower vs. Speedbumps

I'm considering getting a bodykit and lowering my car right now, but my main concern is driving around daily with them. Each day I drive on around 5-6 speed bumps through campus, and if i get the bodykit&lower the car, I'll probably have to go reverse everytime i see a speed bump, just like all the other kids do. I'd really hate to do this. :bloated: I've seen some ppl put systems in their car where they can raise it whenever they want. I know those gangsta-style hydraulics can probably do the job, but what other options do I have, also considering reliability, speed(I'd hate to wait 10mins to raise the car each time), cost?

If you're in school, wait till you get out before lowering the car more then an inch or so. No sense in bottoming out the car on speed bumps that you're going over ever day.

But the point is to get it now, and find something to help me get through the bumps without doing damage...

Lamborghini Diablos (and other exotics) have an air lift system in the front. Have you even seen those busses that drop down before you enter? The system is basically this: There is a "bag" of air at each wheel. A coompressor (with a hold tank) feeds into them. When you want to clear a bump, you flip a switch and the bags fill with air. It's about a 2-3" lift. The reason you have the tank is so that you don't have to wait for the compressor to do fill it slowly. The tank expells all the air into your bags and then the compressor fills the tank up again for the next use. To drop the car back down again you push a button that deflates the bags.

What you've just suggested is Air-Ride right? the system originally designed for trucks?

if your car is too low too make it over speed bumps it is probably below the legal height (i dont know what your states height regulations are) but you can get pricey tickets for this. in my opinion lowering your car isn't worth it.

I don't know if it is the air ride system or not, but you can also use air shocks instead of the bags. Just make sure you add a tank and electric solenoid to power its valve, that way you dopn't have to wait 1 min to raise your car.

As for the law, I didn't see anything about it yet here in TX. Plenty of people have done these modes and have to go over speedmumps diagonally. I haven't heard of anyone getting a ticket. The DOT/DPS website also doesn't list anything on ride height last time I read the "required vehicle equipment" chapter.

In oregon no part of the body can be lower than the lowest part of the rim. I might be the same there.

Get Air Cylinders. The owener of Race Dezign here in Beaverton has them on his '93 Integra with a turboB16A1. He has a Body kit on it and it hops like it has Hydros but doesn't take long to charge the compressor, you get a few hops with a tank.

It Replaces the existing suspension, but when it's all the way deflated the body is touching the ground, but you can control ride height.

I've got a 2003 RSX Type-S with a Veilside Full Body Kit. I would like to put it on airbags, for both looks, and also because I have a hell of a time with everything from speedbumps to my own driveway. Does anybody know of a place I can get an air kit for my car?
Ive looked but I cant find a set made for my RSX.
