Turbo RSR 934 porsche

HEy guys look what I got today.This was built by my coworker back in the 80'2 he was going to chuck it out so I took It Im not sure what to do with it. The paint is alright but not the greatest. I amy strip the paint and redo the body on it. Here are some pics......Oh ya its the Tamiya 1/12 scale kit

Give me some tips, should I strip it or try to polish it out?????

Here's my advice:
If you can get more decals, I would strip the paint and redo it, because it's hard to polish around decals. If you can't, though, I would lay down a few (like 5 or more) coats of clear and then polish them, which would preserve your decals. The clear would fill in that orange peel that you can really see in the first picture. Also a note: the front ride height looks a little high, or is that just an optical illusion?:screwy: Cool car though. Does it have an engine, being 1/12 scale?

Thats a tough call, as I would love to tear into it and redo the whole thing. But at the same time, it looks good enuff to me to sit on the shelf. But if you want to refinish the body only, I would do what 924 says with re-clearing and polishing. Looks like a really cool model. I guess it comes down to what the interior and rest of the model looks like to determine what route I'd take.

Unless you can get replacement decals I would leave it. I've seen a lot worse and it's in a fantastic livery, you can't beat Jagermeister orange! Although a very well done road vesion would also look nice.

I got a replacement set of decals from Tamiya about 3 years back with no probs. The kit has since been re-released so it should be easy to get them if you decide to strip the kit.

IMHO the paint colour is way too dark anyway. Many people use Tamiya orange, which never looks right to me and is too light. The nearest colour match I've found (based on the 934 at the Le Mans Classic this year) is Peugeot Saville.

Well thanks for the replies so far guys. I think I may strip the car and paint it balck or silver. I looked at the paint a little closer and its not very smooth. Maybe Ill try and get a decal set from tamiya like suggested. Keep the replies coming. the more advice I get the better!

Museum Collection make a set of decals to do the Gitanes sponsored car from the 1978 Monte carlo Rally. Also, Renaissance has a set to do the cool JMS X-Ray car from the 1977 24 Hrs of LeMans. So you would have a few choices if you want to do something other than the Jagermeister car. I have both of the sets in stock.

Inspect the decals before laying down clear. Wash it carefully to get the dust off if there is any. I like it how it is.

Yes leave it as is looks amazing like that.
