yes, transmissions are really bad, i believe it is the 3rd puck clutch. anyway honda has extended the warranty on the vehicles affected, they are now 7-year 100,000 mile. many stories have surfaced about people on highways doing 80 and the tranny kicks down into 2nd gear and the shit hits the fan, no accidents yet. but yes the 99-present TL's do have extended warranties now. squeaking, yes, again, horrible the sunroof rattles badly, the lumbar support lever squeaks against the center console, a bit disappointing for such a claimed upper-luxury class automobiles <cough> glorified accord <cough>. but i still like. never heard anything about the leather ripping

I have heard a lot of problems with the TL , CL , and MDX but i havent heard about any problem with the RL and the RSX.  WTF!!!!!!!

Yeah it does, its not really the exterior that rattles, its not really the interior, its all the sh*t inbetween, hardware, its cheap really. Its amazing b/c i used to think so highly of them, now i think that the TL is really just a glorified honda accord, honestly. well the warranty is for the MDX, TL (including type-s), and the CL (including type-s), they all share the same transmission with the automatic/sportshift option. well there aren't many RL owners on my TL board, and i haven't heard any problems with them either, the RSX is still too new, but i think its good to go too. wanna try something, roll down your window the whole way or part of they way then close your door, not very solid (at least mine isn't), my friends nissan sentra se-r spec-v sounds solid as a rock, i couldn't believe it, and he didn't pay close to what i payed. its getting bad

The extended warranty on the transmission is nice but!!!! I lease a 01 TL for 39 months. I won't be buying the car at the end of the lease. Very disappointed.

No, i dink it is da year 99 and on. just go to www.acura-tl.com if u go to T.L Discussion, i will find about all the members there complain about the car even though some of them dont even abuse their cars and still get problems.just go to dat site and ask.

yes, its true, seriously.. its inevitable. it has nothing to do with how you treat your car. the transmission will go on you. the 3rd puck clutch is bad, i beat the crap out of my TL and i'm doing ok at 34,000 miles, there are guys that have less than 20,000 miles and they drive it easy and they have already had their tranny die. there are some guys on the site who have there replacement tranny's giving them problems. i'm a little unimpressed for the acura price but the accord quality.. we should have just bought an accord

I dont know what you guys are talking about, My TL is the bomb. Its a 99 and has 72 thousand miles on it, and nothing major has happened to it. I love it. "Glorified Accord", Umm yes it does use some of the same parts, but Honda has done a fine job making the TL a Luxury car. Why do you think all the magazines, and every reviews, rate them so highly. All cars have there problems, but you are only hearing from the people that had problems and so they go on the internet and tell other people about there problems. I like telling people how great my car is. Best thing I ever bought.

The 99 year wasn't a problem. It came up in 00, 01 and 02. The more miles we put on the 01 Acura TL we have the worse it feels. I just hope we make it past the lease term of 39 months. Probably will turn it in a few months before and get a Lexus.

Actually the 99 Tranny has been known to malfunction, Acura knows it has weak Bearings in it, and There might soon be a recall of it, if Acura can get there act together, but its highly unlikely.

My transmission blew about a month ago. I got my warranty extension on the the tranny 7 yrs 100,000miles. After getting it fixed I'm still havin problems with it. Thank God my lease is up in 4months. Also my engine block broke, TCS had to be replaced, and passenger side airbag was had to be fixed because the light kept goin on. After everything was fixed I'm still havin problems with each of em.

I have a 2000 TL 3.2 - and at about 60 thousand my transmission totally broke. Had to replace the whole thing - thank god i had extended warantee, the price for replacement is around 4-7k depending on where you do it. And I gotta tell you - it always felt weird when switching gears. I just test drove a new TL-S - and noticed the same kind of switching. Don't like it - sell the car b4 it hits 50k.

I just stumbled across this thread. I know its old...but I had to give my 2 cents...I have had a 2002 3.2TL type S for a couple of years now (got it right when it came out) and have never had any problems whatsoever with it. It runs great (awesome power) and never heard a squeak or sound coming from door, sunroof, etc. I highly reccommend it and will buy more Acuras.

my mom drives a 2003 3.2 TL Type-S, and she loves it, but have any of u ppl have or had alot of dings on the car, cuz i think the design of the car is wide, and sticks out in parking spaces, also my mom is having a rattling problem with the sumroof 2, but everything else is great, my dads best fren had 5 acuras, nd didnt heven have 2 change the oil, so mayb ur car need more care, or i dunt kno, all i kno the JD Power says the 2003 line up is the best of acura

Nah man, the car is far from wide...I'm just guessing your mother parks in small parking spaces, close to pickup trucks, etc etc etc. The sunroof rattle is well known on AcuraWorld.com...they have corrective tape they put in there to stop it. As for your dad's friend...if he doesn't change the oil...he needs to take better care of his car. All cars need an oil change man..I'm surprised he hasn't had any wear issues with the car if he didn't. The transmission issue is also very well known, and has absolutely nothing to do with taking care of the car. The third gear clutch plate disintegrates, which clogs the tranny fluid filter, in return dropping the pressure and leading to downshifting. And JD Power doesn't know crap about cars...

The car has been a dream to drive on the open road. But I have had many problems with my Acura Certified 2001 3.2 TL. I bought this used in Dec 2002 with 21K miles on it. Now at 46K. This week the transmission will be replaced. This after the following problems in the last 11 months: Front rotors/brakes replaced twice, two new radios, moonroof rattle fixed, peeling chrome on door handles (one which was discovered when it severely gashed my finger), all door gaskets replaced due to severe wind noise, new engine computer, new instrument cluster, lower driver seat leather cover replaced due to cracking, arm rests replaced in both rear doors because they came unglued, center armrest rattled because all the screws fell out.
Many of these problems took multiple visits to repair because of technical service at my previous dealership. After the instrument cluster was replaced at the selling dealership the gear lights did not work. They said it needed another new instrument cluster just as I was moving to Houston.
I took my car to a new Acura dealership to check the cluster, some water leaks in the trunk and a rust blister in the paint. My new Acura dealership found that the cluster was fine. The problem was the twelve light bulbs the previous Acura dealer had left out. My new Acura dealer then told me my "CERTIFIED" Acura had been in a rear end collision and the leaks and rust could not be repaired under warranty.
I called Acura Customer Services who said there was nothing they could do. I would have to deal with the selling dealership. I am now attempting to negotiate with the selling dealer to make me whole on this.
Wish me luck!
