TCC solenoid replacement

Do you guys know how difficult it is to replace this solenoid? I have ruled out that the TCC solenoid is bad. The part is cheap enough, I just want to know if I can do it or should I get someone else to it? I talked to a guy that said if it has overdrive versus not having overdrive is the difference between the difficulty of replacing the part. Has anyone heard of this?

I found a website with step by step instructions on how to do it, but was wondering if you guys had any other tricks or tips to replace it.

You must remove the side cover to access the solenoid, by the way they usually are not a problem in this trans, anyway, you have to remove the axle, may have to drop the subframe and trans to clear the side rail also.

Yes those are the symptoms of a TCC solenoid that won't release the clutch when it gets hot, probably intermitent, feels just like stopping a car with a manual trans without stepping on the clutch. My research led me to believe that this trans had a lot of TCC solenoid problems. I removed the axle and moved the side cover enough to replace the solenoid and secured the wires to the oil tube with plastic ties to reduce the likelyhood of vibration breaking the wire at the butt connectors. I did not completely remove the cover or drop the sub-frame. Cleaned the RTV and put the cover back on with RTV. It did not leak, corrected the condition and the owner was very happy as she also spent a lot of $$$ on too many unneaded parts.

Odd, I agree with what you say, but 10 years so far have not had a 4t60e with a bad tcc solenoid, didn't realize it was that common. Some body styles the subframe must be dropped though.

No doubt warm climate contributes to this type of part failure. The car I worked on was a 1994 Cutlass Ciera w/ 4t60e. The cover will not come all the way out without dropping the subframe.
