I have a 93.5 g20 and it is costing me $1500 for parts and $500 for them just to open the transmission and tell me what's wrong. I am practically getting a new transmission, just keeping my old case. The transmission shop said there was lots and lots of ware on most of the parts. My car is an automatic and it wouldn't go out of 2nd gear so now I know why! Just wanted to share my major expense with my g20.

holy $hit! That's way too much. You can for sure find a gently used transmission for aroun $300-500. Labor sounds about right. HTH

IMHO, places will rape you just b/c it's an INFINITI and not a "Nissan". But it also could be that I'm a girl and they think I'm some blabbering bimbo. :o
Best of luck getting that fixed. Cost me over $800 just to replace my clutch last March. I won't even go into how much I've spent fixing the rest of the d@mn car. :(

Funny how you guys are now responding. If you notice I posted this in august. Anyway, I already got it fixed costing me about $2500 total. You can't just go to a junk yard and get a transmission. You never know what kind of abuse it has had or anything. Anyway, the past owner of my car liked to shift the gears manual (on an automatic) while driver. That is very bad for a transmission. So there were tons of stuff wrong with the transmission, have to replace most of the parts, just keeping the casing. I didn't get ripped off, working on transmissions are very expensive, if I got a brand new transmission it would have cost me $3500 with no labor. Now if I could just fix the 100 other things going wrong with my car. :-)

yeah sorry about posting late. I would definitely not go to a junkyard for a transmission either, but lots of reputable companies sell used/remanufactured transmissions. Personally I would never get a transmission fixed, replacing it with a slightly used one is waaaay cheaper. So what else is going wrong with your car? Maybe i can help
