rover metro 1992 1.1 starting problems

Hi all my car allways starts first time however if left to idle for a long time and you switch the engine off and attempt to restart it turns over but wont fire up.The spark is ok but when this happens the plugs seem starved of petrol. Any suggestions very welcome
