what yrs of 3.0 motors will fit in 97 taurus?

I got a pretty good deal on a 97 taurus the other day (FREE!) and since the price was right I couldn't pass it up.:) The motor in it is junk. What years of 3.0 ford motors will fit in a 97 taurus? Will a 3.0 out of a 90 or 91 probe (I can't remember what year the guy said it was since I didn't write it down) fit in a 97 taurus? Thanks for your help in advance!

The tranny is good. They just had the rear main go out on them and ran it home instead of being stuck in a rainstorm.

It depends on how you define "fit." If you are looking for a drop in replacement engine that will not require any extra work, you will want to get a 3.0L engine from another '97 Taurus. If you don't mind extra work, such as swapping wire harnesses and PCMs, then you could probably use an engine from a Probe, but there may be several other functions of the Taurus that won't quite work right afterwards, such as features of the GEM module, PATS system if your '97 has that, etc.

To minimize the potential headaches, you'd be best served to get another '97 engine, same engine code. Tons of Taurii sold in 1997, I wouldn't expect it to be too difficult to find a decent used engine from another 1997. I've never looked though, and I could certainly be wrong.

Was the oil pressure light on for a significant part of the trip so you know the engine is likely damaged, or are you just trying to reduce risk of a future failure?

I'm no expert on Taurus's, but if the parts from your Taurus engine will work on the Probe block, you should be ok with just taking your parts and putting them on the probe engine block.

No, depending on the type. Vulcan is 95 thru 99. Duratec 24 valve 97 can only take a 96 or 97.
