GO KILL URSELF and think of it as community service. Do you have any idea of the amount of people suffering around yOU?? just kidding man. I personally have a 99 crown vic that i just bought. TOday...this morning....$4000 cash with 90000 miles. Tranny just rebuilt just in-case by the previous owner. I'm thinking about dropping a ford racing big dawg(block) 460 in there! It will be a nice project. It'll have dual electric exhaust cutouts going into side-pipes behind front wheels. It'll be nice!

Police cars were available with 351's in them. Check that route out.
I tried to buy one (new) in 1987 and even though I had a relative who OWNED a dealership, he would not sell one to me unless I had a special form saying that I was a "Municipal" buyer. To keep the emission "cafe" numbers in check, they were allowed to produce only a limited number of Crown Vics with 351's in them... so they were required by law to limit the sales to municipalities.

I ended up special ordering and buying a new 87... loaded... still have it.

I doubt if CAFE has any meaning to a 25yr old car.If Ford won't sell it to you go to Summit or another vendor. BTW the CAFE only had to do with the sale to the original owner. I have had about 5 of the 5.8l CVPI. I also bought one brand new off the lot one in 1988.

My point was simply that the old Crown Vics were sold brand new with 351's in them. ergo- the parts list could be put together using that as a reference. The CAFE stuff was just for historical reference.

If you bought one new off the lot with a 351 in 1988, then, according to my relative who owned a Ford Dealership at the time, the purchase was illegal unless you had some sort of municipal authority. I'm only telling you what he told me. Maybe he was lying. Maybe your dealer sold it to you illegally. I only know what I was told when I tried to buy one. I can't prove any of it.

Second hand purchase was entirely legal as stated.

Bummer.

I recently hydroplaned one of my 5.0 Mustangs (the only one with a 5 spd) into a field & hit a post/rail fence.

Wiped out the passemger side.

I know how you feel.

It was the best condition of all 4 of my stangs.

Now it's junk.

Oh well. Kick myself in the a$$ and go on.
