Alternator Wiring Harness

Once again, Auto Zone screwed me over and gave me the wrong alternator, but me being in a hurry, i used it anyways. The mounting points were the same, but the plug locations were spaced a little bit. It worked fine for a while, but when the car refused to crank last night, I knew something was up. I checked, and the ring connector that mounts to the alternator post was melted, and it had melted part of the post, too. And to top that off, the Mitsubishi dealership near my house went out of business, so the nearest one is about 2 hours away. Now I know the alternators are different, but could I use the connector from my 93 NT Eclipse and be on my way? I'm thinking that I can just cut both harnesses, then splice them together, but I just wanted to make sure there are no differences before I did. Thanks.
