Is there any way to tell if a rim that you are going to buy (say from the junkyard) is bent? I'm riding on a bent rim right now and I'm having trouble finding one here in town.

in theory there is, but would require a few things. probably the easiest would just simply take it to a tire express place, and just tell them to mount in on the tire/rim balancer, and just have them spin it and watch for any lateral or radial runout. You could also buy a magnetic or clamp on runout guage, and text it yourself befor you pull it off the the donar junk car.

It's hard to tell on-car if it's the wheel or a bent axle stub or awarped flange or something too....I've got one slightly bent, I'm sure...drove me nuts when I first got the car, you feel it only VERY slightly, most probably wouldn't notice it....got the tires rebalanced once on a road trip because it was eating at me over long distance...no change...so I rotated them and it was gone (from the front)...
Came back after I had new tires put on, I rechecked the balance myself to make sure, but they were dead-on, put it to the rear and it was gone again...it's the one that's currently on the left front, bothering me again (been rotated back to the front), I sure can't see the runout in the wheel when I spin it, but I can feel it...:banghead: ..if I ever run across one of these LS wheels that's affordable (:rofl: ), I'll swap it...

I noticed mine wabbling a bit in the front after a tire rotation. The place where I have my tires rotated showed me that it wobbled when they put it on their machine. I'm not seeing any uneven tire wear or anything so it's probably not a big deal. I can put up with a little wobble for a few thousand more miles! I would like to get it replaced, but for some odd reason I'm having a hard time finding the same wheel. I guess I'll pick one up the next time I hit the ol' junkyard. I'm just glad it's on my '93 not my '99, I'd imagine the "impala style" rims would be hard to find an cost lost of $$ :(
