uggghh....brake issues

ok 1990 cavilier. put new pads and rotors 2 years ago, now the pads are toast, but they are worn very un-evenly. th pads on the front side of rotor are down to the metal, but the back side of rotor are prob 70% life on them. (both sides of car) would this be a caliper issue, maybe a restricted line? also my rims were bent and wobbly but i fixed that maybe that caused it? plz input

did you greese the bolts on your calipers? there is a slide thing in there like were the two bolts are that bolt to the bracket, they are supposed to slide a little bit so they wear even.

ok so after reading the reply way back in 2006, what i noticed was my calipers were messed up. I bought new calipers, new slide bolts new brake lines, and the pads. all greased properly. now here it is just a year later, and the brake pads are oddly worn again, with the pad nearest the tire being gone and the one nearest the engine still new. I am at a total loss as to why this is happening. I do not ride the brakes or drive crazy. also i have replaced shoes and wheel cylinders on rear so those are fine. help!

Keep in mind, majority of your stopping is done by your front brakes. Though I'm not sure why the pad would be worn so unevenly like that. Did you replace your rotors too? Maybe they're the problem if they're older too.

the first thing i thought was rotors, did you have the rotors turned when you replaced the pads, or did you just "pad swap"?? if you did not turn or replace your rotors at all, i can pretty much guarantee you this is the problem, and if this is the case, it is far too late to have them turned, they will need replaced for sure

they're not expensive at all, and 10 times easier to change then the pads

have your master cylinder checked it sounds like maybe a malfunction or blockage possibly a sensor

the rotors were brand damn new after i went through this a few times. i changed pads, rotors, calipers, slide pins(greased) brake lines steel and rubber. since then i hvae replaced the pads again and they are due again, same problem, lol. At least the parts store keeps replacing them free its just my sweat

Did you buy new calipers or reman calipers? If they're reman, pull the rubber bushings out where the slide pins go through and see if there's rust in there. If there is, scrape it all out (I use a round file) and grease the inside of the bore and reinstall the bushing. that's really all that can cause your problem... a blocked line/hose would cause more wear on the inner pad, or possibly both the wear excessivly, but sticking slides are all that can cause the outter pad to wear more.
