Broken Timing Chain

02 Alero with 2.2L EcoTec, 52000 mi. My car just stopped running on the way home from my vacation in Florida. I'm just glad it happened only 1 mile from home. Come to find out the timing chain broke.
Would this have caused any damage to the valves and or pistons? I would hate to replace this chain to find out I have bigger problems.
Where can I find detailed instructions on replacing the chain?
Was there any recalls for this from Oldsmobile?
Any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome to AF.
Probably good to invest in a GM service manual for detailed instructions or a subscription to AllDataDIY if you plan on doing the work yourself.
I do not believe there are any recalls out on the 2.2 Ecotec for timing chain related problems.
