Im having a problem with the rear air suspension on a 1998 Grand Marquis. The dash "service air suspension" light is on and the back end of the car is sitting low. Is this usually an air pump problem or could it be a relay or a fuse that is causing the pump not to go on? Where is the pump located? Thanks for any help.

It could be the Air Springs as well. I saw them somewhere on Internet for $89 with life-time warranty.
I had before 1988 Lincoln Continental, so it's Air Springs cost me about $450 per wheel. About 6 months after I changed them for all 4 wheels they failed again. So I decided to get rid of it (Continental). The bad thingy is if one side failed, second goes down as well.:disappoin
Thats for Lincoln Continental. I dont know about MGM. But what I know is that when I was driving a cab few years ago, all of our car were displaying AIR SUSPENSION warning, but neither of the end of our cars were sitting down. So I think our mechanics found their way around. I think (just a guess) that they just replace it with COIL SPRINGS.
I hope in your case its just a fuse or pump,

1. visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Refer to the following chart:
Mechanical:
-Restricted Suspension Movement
-Excessive vehicle load
-Cut, severed or crimped air line(s)
-Damaged air spring(s)
-Height sensor damage
-Height sensor mounted incorectly, disconnected or damaged
Electrical:
-Central junction box (CJB)
Fuse 5 (15A)
-Batery junction box (BJB)
Fuse 8 (30A)
-Loose or corroded connectors
-Air suspension switch OFF
2.If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can be readily identified, repair as required.
3.If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, run the Auto Test. If any DTCs are retrieved, what are they?
According to symptoms that you have:
4.Rear rides low/high
Possible Source(s):
- Circuitry.
- Air spring solenoid.
- Air suspension height sensor.
- Air suspension control module.
6.Air suspension warning indicator ON
Possible Source(s):
- Air suspension switch OFF (Place the air suspension switch in the ON position)
-Air suspension control module.
-Circuitry.
-Instrument cluster (conventional cluster) or lamp warning module (electronic cluster).
Hope this will help,
