Hey all.... It's been quite a while since I have posted here (I'm always reading the forums though), so I thought I would show y'all what I have been up to. I have been converting part of my garage into the ultimate automotive workshop. It was a long project, but it's completed now...below are some pics of my new "getaway" space!!!! There's more pics on my website:

Hi Bil! Looks bigger than a room on a ship... Very nice, I'd expect nothing less from you. Coming down my way anytime soon? - Mark

Incredible!
My parents never stop telling I take too much place in the basement, gonna show them your pics to show them I don't take this much space :-)
Everything seems perfect, I could never keep something clean like this for more than 2 hours.

Awesome. Just Awesome. I can only hope my garage and workshop end up looking something as good as this. BTW, what fan do you use to evacuate your paint booth?

Hey Mark...Yes much bigger than a space on a ship...in fact, this room is 11 feet wide by 16 feet long.

No plans as of right now to come down to the sunny south...perhaps this fall though.

John,

I used a standard bathroom fan that has, for the most part, a covered motor. I've been using these kinds of fans for years with no problems using all sorts of paints.

Wow that is simply amazing. You have more model kits than some of the hobby shops around here. Looks great.

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. AWESOME!

I finally got a good space for building, but it's nowhere near as fancy as that! Now how about building something in all that space...:grinno:

Cool, thanks. Any idea where you got that particular one? Just any standard bathroom fan at Home Depot?

Bought it at Home Depot, but it wasn't with the regular bathroom fans, this one was sold in the area where they have the heat ducting, attic fans, etc. I don't recall the brand name and I can't see any ID on the back of my fan housing. I just threw the box out too....sorry I can't be more help. If I remember correctly, it may have been 110 cfm.

Damn!!!! Awesome workshop you have there! I've just got my humble desk to build on and an old carboard box for a spray "booth". It's not even my whole desk, it's like a 4" x 8" area! Hope to see some great stuff from you!

That's really impressive.

I love the odds and ends made out of auto stuff (rotor wall clock, CF panitbooth exhaust!!! :D )

Also, I think your solution for a paint booth is actually one of te simplest I've seen. It's just a conversted regular wall cabinent, yes?

Have fun in there!!

Time ago a good friend point me in few "in progress" pics of your workshop: seem a lot is done by yourself! Congrats, Bill. I'm envious of all those order!! I'm a pig compared ;) :D.
As a designer I can't say to love the style of huge steel/glass showcase but seem really useful due the onepable door and dustproof, great solution.

Given the number of responses, you hit a nerve with your workshop. You certainly hit mine. I also thought that I need a more organized work space, just could not picture it. Now I have pictures.

You did a great job. I like the way you decorated it into a theme, too.

First: Great room. I love. I got a room like you, but not that great. And I wane take my paint booth in this winter, but then i need to build in a fan like you. How did you apply it to the box? Do you spray right against it or do you got anything to protect it some?

Maybe you could get some close up photos or a step by step how you did it.

That would be great :)

Jeez Bil, your a lucky bastard! I finally have my own work space but its a mess, no time to fix it up. You have some great momentos as well, my walls are covered with Saints stuff, not fancy F1 brake covers, though i do have the same clock LOL. Great job and maybe it will finally inspire me to fix up my new room.

WOW! Are you ever going to finish all those models you have shelved? I wouldnt mind you adding me to your will to take some of them off your hands should you not be able to finish them:grinyes: :naughty:

Nicely done.

Even if I had the room, I wouldn't have the award-winning projects to display. I'd love to be able to have a look at your collection one day.

Definitely looks 'motivating....

Actually, the spray booth is a microwave cabinet that I bought at WALMART. I didn't add the upper area and I didn't put the wheels on. I added the lazy susan from my old booth. For the fan mount, all I did was cut the appropriate sized square hole in the back and used a glue gun to attach and fully seal the fan housing to the particle board back. I used the fan's ceiling cover on the inside of the booth to help keep the paint particles from flowing directly into the motor and then in front of that, I simply inserted a funace filter that can be replaced whenever it's necessary. Hope this helps.

...and yes, I am having fun in here!!!

Thanks you all for your compliments....I'm quite proud of this room I built, and I will stress that I built it completely myself from scratch....below are a couple of pics of how this garage looked. I wanted to create a "industrial, techy" kinda look, which I think I achieved. I used lots of alternative materials to put the room together. All in all, it cost me about $4500.00 bucks from start to finish. It may seem like a lot, but the extra value (and not to mention, space) I gained in my home will more than make up for it when the day comes when it's time to sell. (not anytime soon!)

The header is from Arciero-Wells Racing (CHAMP Car), either Christiano DaMatta or Oriol Servia. (only has 1897 miles on it!!!)
The Carbon Fibre brake backing plate is also from the CART series.
The brake rotor and brake hat is from CART.
The wheel and tire is from Team Kool Green (CART).
The Flugal wing and fire suit is from Orial Servia's Telefonica CART car/team.

What to say, when you make models like you do, your building space should be built the same way. So much "takeing care" can be seen from that last picture.
Fantastic work space.
