I own a 1999 Jeep Cherokee (4.0L) and need help please. The problem is the coolant leaks out of the car at a constant drizzle toward the back of the motor right where the transmission bolts up to the engine (or in that area). No water leaking in the interior of the vehicle and i cannot see where the water is comming out of. In addition, the top hose comming out of the raditor is extremely hot to touch while the hose which attachs to the water pump is not hot at all.

What could the problem be? Please help.

P.s. no water is in the oil so i am leaning away from a blown head gasket.

Thanks,

Jeepster

You should take a look at the top rear of the engine, and check the heater hoses in that area. You could also have a head gasket leak, where the water is leaking out of the engine but not into the crankcase.

A thorough inspection up top while the vehicle is running should show you the leak.

Look at the water pump.. up front. When mine leaked it flowed along the the oil pan on the left side to the back of the engine where your's is dripping at. It made quite a puddle while sitting. (97XJ Sport)

They never said which side it's dripping out from, it might also be a cracked hose by the heater valve or the heater valve might be cracked. Only other thing would be to check the freeze plugs on the block as well to make sure that one of them isn't damaged causing a leak.
