2001 replacing cab filter a/c & heater

Hello - this is my first time posting and I am amazed at this formum. Last time my air condition started having problems it turned out my filter was clogged (I have dogs) - it cost me $200 to have them clean it. It's under the dash - does anyone know how i get to the filter to clean it myself?

I think it's just a bolted cover under the dash on the passenger side. Near the middle. Filter drops out. Who charged you $200 to clean it? I thought you could replace it for like $50. Unless that's only certain years. What year is yours?

I just replaced mine in my 2002. It's really pretty easy to do. You need a 1/4 rachet and 7/32 and 9/32 sockets. On the bottom of the heater cover, there are a couple of recesses. Facing the cover, there is one screw on the right end and another near the center. Remove them. There is also one over by the console extension(if you have one). leave that in place. Once the screws are out, look for a black plastic clamp and follow it towards the end. There is one more screw there.Remove it and work the clamp back towards you. Look up there and you should see the first filter. Pull it out and go after the second one. If you can grip it, it will roll right out. Put your new filters in and put all the screws back and you're done. It's really harder to describe than it is to do.
You'll be amazed how much crap the filter catches and how much better the AC will work. I bought Bosch filters at AutoZone. Think they were about $18 or so. Good luck. That's pathetic that you were charged $200 for replacing the filters. I think I'd have a talk with the BBB. Good luck, Mike

You wouldn't happen to have the part number on those filters would you? The Autozone by me never seems to have the lookup books (people steal it?!?!), or they are way outdated. Or is the filter a counter item?

Also, I answered my own question about the year of your truck. I need to start actually reading the thread titles. :p

wow that was simple enough and fixed the problem, lol, although when tried to get out the screw for the filter the head busted off. :banghead: gonna be next to impossible to easy out that screw, lol. atleast its holding together without it sofar.

When i changed mine on my 02 I think they were like 5.5mm socket, may be wrong but anyway i just washed them with liquid soap and compressed air dried them. I think I read somewhere that someone has a charcoal version to eliminate smells, if not I will make my own.
