This is the Revell/Fujimi GT40 from Sebring 1966. Built OOB. Painted with 4 light coats of Tamiya TS-15 Blue then 1 light coat of Tamiya TS-19 Metallic blue topped off with 2 coats of tamiya Clear then rubbed out with Tamiya compound and wax. I like the effect of the metallic blue over blue. It keeps the color nice and dark and give just enough metallic with going over-board. I'm sure it's not the exact color of blue that it should be but it's close enough for the shelf. The wheels were painted with Testors Magnesium metallizer and cleared with testors dullcoat. The blue stripe on the tires was hand painted with Tamiya flat blue acrylic.

Thanks guys,

The Revell issue is a re-release of the Fujimi kits from several years ago with different decals. The Revell kit is also several years old, copyright 1989, I think and there are two versions of the Revell release.

Cool I have this kit stashed away in a Revell box, even comes with the P/E grills. Good job, makes me want to start mine.

Wow, Eric. Lovely shine, and the overall effect is just stunning. I have a thing for deep metallic blue ;)

Wow! I'm sinking into that blue too...looks like there should be fish in there it's so deep. Very nice but too clean for me, looks like there should be weathering or something. Very nice though!

Very nice. How'd you hand paint those stripes on the tires and get them so clean?

I think that looks absolutely fantastic. The finish of the paint is superb as is the whole car, I don't think it's too clean. The cars must have been clean before the start of the race!

How did you do the stripes on the tyres by hand? did you place the tyre on a drill or something like that and hold a brush/painting implement of some kind against it as it spun or maybe even spun it by hand. Please let me know your top tip!

Thanks everyone.

The tire stripes were painted with a long bristled very narrow artist brush. I thinned the Tamiya acrylic paint to about a 50/50 ratio of paint/thinner so the paint would flow from the brush very easily. Then, just caerfully pulled the brush around the tire little by little. The tire has a very small edge at that location to follow. Anywhere I went of line I cleaned up using a clean brush dipped in alcohol and pulled along the edge of the stripe to soften and wick the excess paint away.

Thanks for the tip! I Will have to give it a go too. I've got the Fujimi '69 Le Mans winner to do at some point which from memory also has a thin stripe around the edge of the tyre.
