2002 Montana heat and AC problems

I have read some past posts and I see that this is not an uncommon problem, but I'm not sure the other problems described are exactly like this one:
Have had the car for almost a year. Has 65K miles. Has never put out much heat. The air comes out (not powerfully, though), but it is barely warm. Mechanic doesn't know for sure what the problem is, but head gasket has been mentioned as a possibility. Has anyone had this problem solved?
