The Flying Canopy....

OK.... so not as exciting as the title might suggest but, just thought I'd share with my innovation on the weekend. I got tired of always asking for help to pop my Canopy off and on so I built this hanger system up in my garage. When not in use the boards and chains just go up into my shops attic.

Nice job. I was thinking of doing something similar. I have the Yakima racks that attach to the top, and was going to use a pulley system.
It's way down on the honey-do list, in fact, it's not even on her list, it's on my to-do list, which is lower than worm-sh1t in priority.

That's awesome! I had a rope and pulley system to lift and lower the old car-top carrier on our station wagon using hooks for the crossbars on the roof rack system. Stored it pinned to the ceiling of our old condo.

Yeah, I wanted to do a pulley system but, for the most part the Canopy rides along with me on the truck.

Nice job;
I know what you mean about the asking for help part. I got tired of hearing the wife moan when I asked her to take my cap off for me;)
I made something similar but I used the nylon motorcycle tie-downs.

Hey thanks,
it's been a few years in the making job (the posters that is) I get the for free from the local video shop before they throw'em out. 3 out of the 4 walls have stuff on them. Just gotta find a few more.... Cheaper then paint, for now that is...

Looks great. I want to do something like that too when I have the time.
I would consider putting something over the chains to protect the paint if the canopy should slide toward them. An old bike tube looks like it would fit over those chains nicely for this.

You Know I was thinking that; and was wondering what I could put on it to do that and now I know. Thanks... a new project for me this weekend.
Cheers
