Found an engine for a '97

From time to time I see that some of us are looking to replace the engine on a 2nd generation model. I came across this in a local classified ad. Not many details, I know...But for $200 it may be worth it? Some of the accessories or major parts could be of interest - maybe the whole unit is in good condition. My Rodeo is running good (knock on wood) and I don't have room in the garage for a 'spare' but maybe you do.

Would be helpfull if the guy actually knew what he had. The ad says fits 97-98 rodeo, but those 2 years used different engines (97 SOHC 98 DOHC).

The engine owner called back. It was removed from a '97 so it's the SOHC.
Reason for removal - someone beat the snot out of the vehicle by excessive four-wheeling and twisted up the front diff. and transmission. Had 90,000 miles. He parted out the Rodeo, kept the engine now wants it out of his garage. Is complete minus two coil packs.

Wow - if I had a place to put it; but the way mine's running, it could be a LONG time sitting, which that can't be good for it.
Just got through all of my G-parents's vehicles they had sitting around for YEARS - '78 Dodge Conversion van w/318 3/4 ton (IIRC) 100k original miles; '81 Chevy 454 3/4 ton 79k original miles; 84 Chevy 454 1-ton 89k original miles; and an '86 Chevy 454 1-ton 64k original miles....you get the picture.
All of the above trucks sat sometimes for months and months on end, getting drove on alternate occasions, but they just had so many to choose from, as aside from this they had an early 90's RV - don't remember the mileage count, but if I remember correctly, it's OD passed that of the oldest alternate vehicle listed above - it was more roomy and easier to travel in.
Needless to say, I went through the engine bays of all of these vehicles before attempting to sale them; the '86 Chevy 454 1-ton aged the worst, and I really believe it's cause it didn't get drove enough. The internals of the engine were - from our best guess - corroded, as no matter what we did, that truck overheated consistently. We put in a new radiator, thermostat, hoses, fans, transmission coolers, had 4-5 flushes done on it - damn thing just kept overheating.
We finally gave up and just gave it away.
All the other engines mechanically still sounded good, they all needed new hoses, belts, were gonna need new seals/gaskets, had leaks EVERYWHERE cause everything dried up. Oh, I'm glad to be done with all of that.

Just emailed the guy. I'm going to check out the motor next week and possibly pick it up so I have a spare.
