Seeking Advice on replacement Rotors / Pads

I have been searching the forum / web for a few days now and can't seem to come to any conclusions... I have a 02 Durango and need to replace the front pads and figure I will will do the rotors at the same time since I currently have a slight vibration while braking. I have been looking at Bendix or Brembo for the Rotors as I am under the impression that these are of good quality. I'm not sure whether I should go with standard, drilled, slotted etc... Although I have seem some negative posts on drilled rotors. Also, there seems to be many choices on pads... I'm not sure what these ceramic ones are all about???

I appreciate any input or direction my fellow forum peers can give me on this...

i have a 99 slt. you probably dont want to go with ceramic cause youll be replacing rotors before pads. i have about 10000 miles on summit brand cross-drilled rotors and semi-metallics from dodge. couldnt be happier and no noise.rotors were like 150 for the pair and 60 for the pads.

Stay away from the cheap pads,they do not last long.Stay away from AutoZone and Advanced for brake pads,they sell cheap brake pads.Wagner Quiet stops are very good brake pads and last a long timeThere is one problem with ceramics,they are noisy and the noise does not go away.Get the rotors measured with a micrometer and there is a spec on them and should be in a brake book.Get the rotors turned.

Brembo is an excellent choice and worth the extra $ (within reason). They don't warp and pad life will most likely be extended due the fact the rotor is a higher quality stainless material. I would not go with the extra expense of a cross drilled rotor, but you could look at some of the powerslot style. Only thing is they will make a bit of a whirring noise under hard braking. For your pads, just use a good quality pad. I use the middle of the line pads from napa and have no complaints about life or braking performance on any of my vehicles. A Note on high performance brakes - some are designed to work best at high temps and sometimes you'd notice decreased brake performance under normal driving conditions.

If you don't want to bother with drilled & slotted expense and/or shipping, Car Quest has the rotors for about $40 each & the Carbon Metallic pads for around $50. Have been through 2 sets of Autozone Rotors for about the same price & they just don't last or perform.

For drilled & slotted, go to www.jcwhitney.com & look up your vehicle brake rotors. I got a set of RotoTech drilled & slotted for $70 each. The package recommends semi-metallic pads, which are cheaper. Any place that has decent quality Raybestos will do. Buy those local because you won't save that much & they could send you the wrong size if shipped. Not worth the hassle.

Note that you have to order one passenger & one driver side each. The Durango never stopped better than with these rotors.

i got a deal on a set of Akebono ceramic brake pads for all 4 axles and rear Brembo blank rotors for $170...that was shipping included...would have been $260 if i had gotten the front...have yet to drive my car b/c i had to order a new rear caliper...if this is something you want i can probably get you the same deal...

i figure the performance should be the same on my Land Cruiser and your Durango

My rotors do put out some road noise that wasn't there when I had the conventional ones. Again, the stopping is much better so it depends on your preference.
