Ticking Noise from rear of engine

99 Grand Prix GT 3.8 80,000 miles
I have a ticking noise coming from the back of the engine. It does not sound like lifter noise. It sounds more like an exhaust leak from around the rear manifold. Has anyone else had this problem?

Welcome to AF.
It would be helpful to post the year and model Grand Prix to include engine size.
There is a donut seal between the exhaust manifold flange and the downpipe that could cause it. Also, a bad exhaust manifold gasket or a crack in the exhaust manifold itself.

Doh!!! I knew I forgot something.
To me it sounds like it is coming from either the gasket or the manifold itself. I hope not because it will have to go to the she shop for that.
