The PVC has a rubber o-ring gasket on it. I don't know if it's one or two. I believe I've heard people having a squealing from the air being sucked around it if they left the original o-ring in and put in the second o-ring or left both o-rings out.

Who has changed theirs? I did but it was 80K miles ago... I've long forgotten.

Series I PCV for me... so I don't know anything on that.

As for other possible sources, what is the condition of the harmonic balancer? It usually just vibrates like crazy vs making a squealing noise, but it is still worth looking into. If you remove the belt and grab the HB, and try to move it side to side there should be no slop....if there is then the rubber holding the sections together has deteriorated and the HB must be replaced.

rnelson,

How about doing something about your sentence structure and at least put a period after a sentence. Thank you for your cooperation.

What happens when you take off the oil cap when the motor is running? Is it sucking in air?

This is not personal, but when technical issues such as yours are posted, it is difficult for us on the forum to sort out the info to give you accurate advice, so a clear and concise description is required. By the way we all are grateful for your call to aid this country.

I just looked at my pvc valve. There is a small o-ring on the bottom part of the pvc. It's about 1/2 inch up from the bottom of the pvc when I lift it out.

No problem. Just do the best you can. No one is going to kick you off AF.

Thanks for the service to your country. Alot of us are in the same boat and Veterans of the Vietnam era.

Checkout the tech link below for PCV on a SII 3800:

In addition to the black o-ring on the PCV valve make sure you have the big orange one that seals the MAP sensor holder to the UIM. If that is missing it gives off a loud motorboat type sound.

Some one tell me what the thing is i thought was my p v c valve. Its in the back of the plenum about in the middle it goes into the plenum & a hose goes to power brake boster then a littler hose goes to the left both hoses go on this plastic thing i would like know what it is . Also how could i have lost a qt of oil by driving with out a p v c valve . I lost a qt of oil in 200 miles . My car doesnt use oil . Hope i never tore up the engine . buffalo

The plastic Y piece is a one way vacuum check valve.

It is quite conceivable to go through that much oil without a PCV valve installed. Due to improper crankcase ventilation the oil was probably blowing by the piston rings and valve guide seals. It will probably all burn out or just use some top engine cleaner like the one from GM or Seafoam. Just keep an eye out for any further oil consumption just to be safe. Good luck.
