About Running Lights.....

Hey everybody, i'm new to the forums as well as new to owning a VW. I just bought a black '01 jetta 1.8t with a standard tranny and a sunroof (i tell yall that because i'm excited!).
i love the car but it has one mechanical problem (a door lock) and one annoying feature (the day time running lights) that i know of.
First, what does anyone know about rewiring (or something) my car so that the day time running lights do not automatically come on, rather, the headlights only shine when the switch is turned to on (where the interior dash-lights come on)? I would love to be able to control my headlights because i've found that there are many times it is very inconvient to have the headlights on while the e-brake is not on -- ya know, like when i'm driving or at work at the drive in.... makes people upset.
Secondly, what are some good do-it-yourself webpages/forums other-than-this-one for VW jetta's?
Thirdly/lastly, my front passenger door lock (auto locks) does not pop-up fully like the rest. When i use the door lock button on the driver-side door, the pass. door will lock or unlock. It is only when i use the lock button on my key/remote that the f. pass. door lock does not lock. It will, however, unlock by the remote. Also, it is not completely consistant in that 95%ish of the time it will not work, but the rare 5% of the time it lock via the key/remote. Any ideas on the problem?
THANKS so much for reading that entire thing! wheww! grace and peace,
kev

Welcome to the VW world. I just got my first VW July, 3 (2003 Jetta 1.8T). Try vwvortex for good DIY's. There is one for easily and temporarily disableing the DRL's.
