Cadillac Specifications

I've been looking into putting a new engine into a 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham(RWD) but I can't find anything on how much room I have to use under the hood. Any info would be appreciated.


My Cadillac has a 4.1 V8 I've been looking at the 4.4 V8 in the GM Performance book as a swap is this a good move or not???? anyone??

Your 85 is basically the same car as the 77 to 84 DeVille and 85 to 92 Brougham. Slam a 472 or 500 in it. Too much? The bodystyle came with 425s and 368s (based on the 472/500), 4.1s, 307 (5.0L) Oldsmobiles, and 350 (5.7L) Chevys - the 4.1s and 5.7s had Throttle Body Injection.

Um' the fwd platform has no resemblance to the 77 -84 rwd vehicle, the engine cannot an will not work in that platform without cutting the car up as the trans is different also. Not good info here. There was never a 425 or 368 in the 85 fwd drive configuration.

Sez he has an '85 RWD Brougham. That qualifies it as the big square Cadillac with the driveline in all the right places, like my '84 DeVille. The RWD platform hosted all of the engines listed, and will easily accept nearly any GM engine (a friend of mine just junked an '86 with a Buick 455 swapped in).

I forgot to mention to tnez 56 that the Fleetwood from 77 to 84 is also the same car. Also, avoid the 1981 368 with the V8-6-4 option. Some still work well, but they are unpredictable at best, as they were when new, and 25 years has undoubtedly been unkind to the good ones, never mind the bad.

seen them all during my 18 yr. tenure at a Caddy dealer.Go with a 425 and TH400 for all out power and fuel consumption,go with a chevy small block with TBI for best all around driveability,and put in another ht 4100 if you like to spend lots of time and money on the car and you arent in a hurry to get anywhere!!
