Tahoe A/C problems 1996

I have a Tahoe, and it seems like every day something different goes wrong with it.

It has 130,000 miles on it.. which isn't that bad..

Anyways, I had a problem with the A/C only working on the high setting.. then it quit. So I bought a new control/switch unit. Now, 3 months later, it is doing it again. What should I replace..??

Also, another A/C problem this time under the hood. It seems to be working fine.. but there is a noise as the belt goes around when the clutch fan kicks on. The noise is evident when it is off.. but gets a lot louder when the clutch fan turns on again..it sounds like something is rubbing as it goes around. The belt is turning, and doesn't look like its slipping.. but the noise is very annoying.

Ok.. now onto the next problem. I get oil changes regularly and on time.. yet now my engine has a slight tick. Do I need to replace the engine now? What is that ticking sound as I accelerate? Can it be fixed without replacing the engine?

I'm going to give all the advice I get on these problems to my fiance to fix.. he is very handy, thank God. I just think I need to trade in.. lol, the Avalanche is looking good to me now, and hopefully they have a lot less problems..

oh, and the wipers quit.. but thats under recall. Yes!!

You should take the ac controller back to the dealer, it has a 12 month warranty...it is common for those to go bad....I have been working for Chevrolet for many years....95-99 Tahoes do have a few select problems, like most other trucks....do not get discouraged...as long as you have your receipt, they will repalce it at no cost to you....my 2003 Z71 Tahoe ticks as well, there is nothing you can do about it....but there are different ticks, you could have a collapsed lifter, or it could be a carbon knock, or it could be the typical tick that all Chevrolets make....If i had a dollar for every customer that came in because their engine was ticking, i could retire in a little country house! Overall, your truck is very dependable....The engine theirself, last many many miles....find a reputable mecahnice hwere you live and have them listen to it...Ae you in the Houston area?
