Just got the new Revell Ferrari 360 Spider

Hey I just picked this up last night and got to painting the body. Here's some pics of the body.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/419689DSCF0097.jpg
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/455487DSCF0099.jpg
The kit isn't that great. I expected a bit more, but it turned out OK. The details are very simplified and some are very inaccurate- scale proportion wise. Things like the steering F1 style paddle shifters are missing, the shifter on the console looks like a big hammer instead of a tiny little T shaped thing that Ferrari uses. Don't expect photo etched Ferrari badges and logos in the Revell kits!
The engine bay itself consists of 4 main engine pieces and one of the reservoirs next to the induction plenums is missing. There is usually two that I've seen. The engine cover doesn't open like the Tamiya kit. For you suspension guys who like to lower cars, you'd love this kit. It has no suspensions arms, but the front wheels can be positioned.
As far as decals go, they're made by Cartograf and seem very well done. This kit contains 69 pieces and requires quite a bit of work on the body to bring out some body lines. This is no Tamiya kit! It is half the price though. It can be made to look well if you have the patience. I think I'll be done with mine in a few days time.
Sorry for the long post, but just thought I'd like to let you guys know if you were considering this kit. BTW, I do have the Tamiya versions of the 360 for comparison. Oh, this thing originates from Revell of Germany. Just like the New Mini and the BMW Z8.

Actually the Revell Germany kits of the Ferrari 360 look like the patterns were
made by Italeri.
Nice kits considering the price, but if you
can find a Tamiya 360 cheap, you're better of.
Speaking of cheap Tamiya kits, what happened
to Ryuluk the Hong Kong guy who was selling
a lot of cheap Tamiya kits on eBay ??

Hahahe he got banned for very negative feelback..... Didn't ship stuff, item received broken etc....
I don't know why ppl say it's cheap.. ok it's 10$, but you need to add 10$ for shipping BY MODEL (he don'T want to combine kit)
20$ each model... go on www.etamiya.com... not that bad !

Jay, Fly: The color is a mix of Testor's Model Master enamel. The primary colors are chrome silver and saphire blue metallic and a clear top coat mixed with a bit of green pearl powder. I tried to duplicate a frost/ ice blue of a 360 I saw in the streets of Los Angeles. The body required a bit of work with putty and a nail file to make body lines more visible. Also the panel lines were very faint and my panel scriber got a lot of use on this kit for the body to look the way it does.
Lowriders4life: I don't think any of us are knocking Revell. I actually enjoy them more than Tamiya kits SOMETIMES. They allow any modeler that has the patience to hone their skills through the repair of their imperfections. The Tamiya kits do look nicer and are finely molded, but they get to be a bore for me when built box stock-thats why some of us challenge ourselves by doing something other than "box stock". For me, the satisfaction of improving a piece of "imperfection" is much more rewarding when done properly. I think Murco ( another AF member ) said something to the tone of, "Revell kits are for the craftsman and the Tamiya kits are made for the painters". It was something like that-does anyone remember? I totally believe in this.
Here are some more pics of the parts and box. The back portion of the seats are hollow. Gonna have to make a filler.

Hey guys, I got some more progress today. I just need to install the brakes, tail lights, paint some bits of the interior, and sand/ polish the body. Then finally take care of the black stuff around the body trim. Looks like I'm actually gonna finish a kit- I'm kinda surprised cause I don't get anything done. Here's some pictures. I had to scratchbuild the console shifter and the F1 shifter paddles on the steering wheel ( the shifter is still white ).

Thanks Vric. I also have the 2 versions of the Tamiya 360 Modenas. They cost double the Revell version and I've had them for over a year now. The Revell has 1/2 the parts at 1/2 the price at 1/2 the time to build and that = more kits finished. <--THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ME FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE SEEN MY PAST PROJECTS. :D
Oh well, I'm trying to not jump from one kit to another so much.

Got to working on this one again. I may finish tonight or tomorrow. Only the black trim around windscreen and the decals left to do. Epoxied the wheels and brakes to have camber/toe settings look right. The Revell method of mounting wheels and tires really sucks. I'll post pics soon.

I'm still a newbie so I'm mainly working on Revells until I get the cash for Tamiyas. Tamiya makes foreign models, and some great models at that, but a lot of cars I want to do aren't available, Vipers, Mustangs, Corvettes, etc. And I'm so new I don't want to disgrace a Tamiya by giving it a cheap paint job. :D Or end up messing up and losing $25. (after shipping) And have you built the Integra Type R? That's some pretty good detail, quality and choices when it comes to rims, body types and decals. What is bad can only get better right? It just stinks to work on their old models like the Viper RT/10 from 1996.

If I could build a Revell kit like that I'd certainly be buying more of them. I admit I'm not a good craftman but Revell kits simply don't fit. I don't like their soft white plastic either.
Just couple nites ago I gave up on Revell/Monogram 2001 Corvette LeMan. After all that time I spent building the engine the whole thing is too high to fit inside the body top.
I still buy them cuz they make lots of American car models.

Dear Mr. Takumi :D ,
You could build Revell models like that! I too, have had problems with Revell kits. They're not perfect and that crappy "flexible toy" type plastic that some of corvette C5Rs were made in really pissed me off, but I got mine to fit properly with some patience. Have you guys ever tried Tenax 7R plastic welder that stuff work wonders when used properly and holds everything together much faster and less messier than regular model cement. The Tamiya thin stuff ( Green Cap ) works great too. I try to test fir everything before I actuallly glue everything together to make sure the parts don't fight each other to fit. This board is great. You'll learn a lot.
thanks for the comments guys, but htere will be more pics in the morning, so I may delete some in order to load faster.

Walter, thanx for your encouragement. :D I really don't want to go back to that Corvette for a while though - I need a break. Is that Tenex(?) stuff really that good? Faster or stronger than CA glue?
Q on your C5R building exp. What did you actually do to fit the body top on the engine & roll cage?
