I bought the Advance Folding Cover you talked about in some earlier posts and this thing is great! Love the way you can fold one panel up on either end to get what's in the bed and that it can be locked. It was easy to install, just time consuming. It took me about 3.5 hours, but it didn't seem like it at the time.

The only problem I had with mine was that some of the c clamps weren't drilled correctly and the screws didn't want to go through them. I called the company and they shipped me some new ones out right away.

I got it from truckstoreusa when they had their 4th of July sale, but I've found that truckchamp sells it cheaper when there is no sale going on.

I've been tracking my gas mileage and before I put the cover on, I got 17.65 mpg (85-90% highway, 70mph, used A/C often, 2006 Silv 5.3L, 2wd). Since I got the cover on, same driving conditions, I got 18.25 mpg. Not a huge difference, but every little bit helps.

Now I'm trying to decide on mud flaps...should I get the 9.7" or 11.1" wide flat contour flaps? Not sure if 11.1 will be too wide and look awkward or if 9.7 will not be wide enough. Any advice on those?

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion, I'm really pleased with the cover!

Greetings JBent,

Glad to hear of your good results on your cover. I too like mine quite well. A couple of things I found from experience:

1. Its really easy to remove the cover completely if you carry a socket driver the size of the hold down stainless screw nuts. I've taken mine off several times completely in less than 45 seconds this way.

2. If you are in winter weather - take care not to scrape the ice/snow off the back carelessly - I knocked off the lock rubber cover doing that :licka:

3. Like you - it takes soem time to install it well - mine is water tight even in driving rain while driving - important for my needs of carrying computer boxes. Seems to be all about the centering on the box and lock down mode.

4. The toughest thing on my cover is leaving the gate checkouts at place like a Menards or Home Depot - people always want to close the tailgate with the cover down - catching the rubber seal inside. I found by experience that tailgate down then cover up to open, but to close its cover up then tailgate up then cover down.

5. nice thing about the Advance compared to the fold-a-cover - is it does NOT pull up in the center on the highway from vacuum pressure (like vehicle passing you).

Glad to hear of your success :licka:
