Airbag warning light (e46)

The airbag warning light has appeared on the dashboard. It is an e46.
Is it possible to fix this without going to a workshop?

Getting code/s read is critical. However, in my limited experience, the SRS light usually means a clockspring (yes clockspring) failure. I have had this experience on three different cars (one a 750) and it was always the clockspring.
