Just got my new Town Car a couple of weeks ago and started having a few problems.
1.The trunk motor won't engage so I found a used one on EBay but haven't received it yet.I was messing around with the trunk on on the trunk lid there is a latch that you can push up and I did this once nad heard a whirring sound for a second and that was it.Is there a motor on that or is it just connected to the trunk motor.
2.When I turn my headlight on the radio start constantly scanning the channels and I can't seem to preset the channels any other time.
3.Noticed a little trans oil the other day after I drove home from work and parked it but not the next day.It seems to shudder a little when it kicks into high gear or OD,not sure.
4.Sometimes when I first put the key in and get ready to start I assume it is the air suspension motor running but seems a little loud.
Sorry for all the questions but just got my first Town Car and just found this site.
Other than that I love this car.
Thanks:screwy:

Another big WELCOME :)
Few problems indeed :)
Yes, the loud rumble near the left front fender is the Suspension Air Compressor. Yes, they are a bit loud, not to worry. You can shut off the Air Suspension switch in the trunk, on the passenger side as an overnight experiment to see if the system is leaking down, or don't. Turn it back on when the experiment is done.
Yes, pressing that little latch (actually it's a switch) will cause the Pulldown Motor to run momentarily. Most likely you did the right thing by replacing the whole assembly. Yours was most likely damaged by someone slamming the trunk when actually it only needs to be gently lowered until the pulldown assembly takes over.
The Transmission shudder should be fixed when you change the fluid and filter. Actually a flush is the best practice, but should have been done twice already at around 35k mile intervals. Many of us also use Lubegard Red Transmission additive, I swear by it. Do a search in the Town Car forum here for Lubegard, and another search for Shudder, all the information is there.
The Transmission leak isn't anything to be concerned about unless you're anal about your driveway. If it's the Pan, the flush will fix that, if it's something else you'll have to get under there to see what it is.
Your Radios doing WHAT? Is this a stock HU or something added aftermarket?

Hello
Welcome to the site. We have a good bunch of poeple here, who know thier stuff. I'm familliatr with the earlier model TC trunk pull down motors. That switch in the deck lid is linked to the motor. If you push it up it should run the motor like you said. The motor it's self has a limit switch mounted on the side. The tab on that limit switch will sometimes break off or the switch will go bad. You can put 12 volts to the motor and run the latch down untill the trunk closes normally. Just leave the connector unpluged and it will close like a normal trunk. I've got one of mine TC's set up like that currently, the other one works flawless. :2cents:

Here's a guy with the same problem, he says "I took the motor out, something went "POP" and now it all works fine", Wierd !! (http://www.lincolnsonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44891)

OK,Thanks for all the help but let me tell you about what just happened.
I received my used motor from a purchase on ebay.Got it all hooked up and still wouldn't do anything so I said to heck with it and manually screwed the latch down and it shut.I then remembered reading today about a fuse for the trunk motor which someone else had told me there wasn't one.
I got the manual out and sure enough its a 15 amp fuse and it was blown.I put a replacement in and the motor worked momentarily but when I went to the back it wasn't shut all the way as before.
I pulled the fude and noticed it kind of sparked each time I removed or replaced it.It also felt like the motor was extremely hot.
Finally removed the fuse, screwed the latch back down and will just use it manually for now.
So I'm thinking the switch on the trunk lid could be bad but not going to spend anymore money right now.

Hello
It sounds to me like your switch in the trunk lid is ok since the motor will operate when you push the lever. It's a fairly simple switch, I think with two positions open or closed. Make sure to check that limit switch on the motor. Currently that limit switch is what is bad with two of mine. I have another TC where the limit switch has a broken tab on it. Now that you have two motors hopefully you have a good limit switch from one of them. I went round and round with these motors for a while tring to figure out the problem. Finally I swaped all components on to the one TC that the trunk pull down was working properly. I tested each component untill I found the problem, and that limit switch seemed to be the week link for two of my three cars. The trunk pull down is a nice feature when it works properly, but when it dosent it's a real piece of junk. :2cents:
