It’s a free Mcafee multi-browser plug in that rates websites you visit for security level. I have the Firefox version right now added in and I’m very pleased.


I highly recommend this plug in to help you get early warnings for dangerous sites.

It will put small icons on the right side of any links searched with Google to rate the site's threat level and a small button at the bottom of your site's window to rate the current site you are visiting. Clicking on either icon will open a new window/tab with detailed information.

EDIT: Some users have reported issues with it. Please read the discussion below and please report any issues you might have if you installed it.

Well I tried it, after just installing the lastest but not so great firefox 1.5 (try streaming media into WMplayer with it) and guess what?

It screwed it up.
It wouldn't even load Firefox in safe mode.

I had to reinstall Firefox for it to load again, this time with the little "Welcome" window from Mcafee.


However, once installed and running, it looks like it could actualy be very useful.
especialy since it adds ratings to google and yahoo search results.

hmm weird glitch, it installed flawlessly for me. Ofcourse this being Firefox maybe it actually had an issue with one of your extensions rather than the browser.


And yes the search engine ratings is one its more useful features. Try googling "free ipods" to have some fun with it.

You don't happen to work for Mcafee do you?

I can't imagine any of those interfering with it.

haha no, I figured my posts sounded a bit like marketing but oh well. I used to be a big fan of Mcafee till they let their Ativir bloat itself to death. They still have good detection rates but its just too messy.


And as far as interfereing with your extensions that is just a theory, there is a chance that is the case since many of those extensions are written by amateurs programers with all the problems that entails. Ofcourse there is also a chance that this is a SiteAdvisor glitch. I don't have enough info to make a proper call.

I downloaded and installed it on my Firefox with no problems. However IE was a different story. I downloaded it and when it finished the little window came up and I clicked "Run". Then the usual "Windows Security window" came up and asked if I really wanted to run it. I clicked 'yes', and then nothing happened. I tried a few more times by going in and trying to open it with no luck. One attempt, a small pop up appeared and mentioned something about an installer problem. It disappeared so fast I couldn't fully read or understand it. I then uninstalled it , re-downloaded it and tried to run it again with the same results. Anybody else having issues with an installation of this program in IE?

Well I think I had a bung install.
Starting yesterday I had trouble getting firefox to load.
I had to restart the PC before it would.
I tried it agian to day, and NOTHING.
It would load firefox.exe as a system process for about half a second, then quite it.

So I used a lovely system restore point, un-installed Firefox 1.07 deleted its folders etc, then used IE (uugghhhhh) to download Firefox 1.5
So far its running, but I have to reinstall all the extensions I had.
Ill set another system restore point first :D

I had no problem installing it on Firefox yesterday, but today, after turning on my computer, and going to my Firefox browser, I find my homepage is missing. I still have all my bookamarks, and can search by using the box on top. I just find it strange that whenever I open a new Firefox startpage, the page I selected as my homepage does not appear. The "McAfee SiteAdvisor" box remains grey, and the message I get at the lower left part of the screen sometimes says "stopped". Also, when I click the picture of the house on the top toolbar, I get the timer symbol with my cursor, but the homepage never loads.

Well reinstalled all my extensions yesterday, leaving site advisor till last.

Guess what, same problem.
There is clearly a very large bug in it, Im going to have to find a feed back page on the siteadvisor site.

However, I was able to re-install Firefox again, and so far, it seems to be working as it should.

I could not replicate your issue. So far my instalation in IE went off without a glitch. Do note i use IE 6 with all the security updates, if you run IE7 it might simply conflict due to its beta status.

Make sure you have the latest Firefox version. It should be 1.5.0.6


Also please check your homepage settings at: Tools > Options...

Could you try and install it without the other extensions. If it runs fine then the problem is with one of them ratehr that with the browser itself.


Anyway in light of the aparent problems I will change my initial post for now.
