The parking brake on my 95 LeSabre is the type that you press once to brake and press again to release. It doesn't stay down; there is something wrong with the mechanism. Any one had this problem? And have a solution? I want to remove it to see what's wrong, but the repair manual I have doesn't say anything about that. Is it difficult to remove?

There is an adjuster on the bottom of the car, near the driver side door. The cable has probably just stretched over time and just needs to be adjusted. All you do is spin the nut on the adjuster untill it is tight.

The cable is tight, it just won't stay. It will brake the car as long as I press on it.

I had the same problem. The lube on the ratchet mechanism dried up and got sticky, not allowing the ratchet to engage.

I sprayed it with some silicone lube to free it up.
