I, for one, am glad to see Ford with the 03 Stangs, pissed sometimes that they're gonna beat me, but glad for competition. Same thing with Chrysler coming out with the new Hemi's. Hopefully those are going to be two things to kick GM's ass to come out with a response, make the Corvette even better, while coming back with a potent 5th gen Camaro.

That said, I'm certain that in the first clip that the 03 races a modded stock Vette, not a Z06. The second race in the first clip of those two clearly shows a lack of rear brake vents on the side of the Corvette.

The second clip demonstrates how close the Z06 and the 03 Cobras really are. Seems like they'll come down to driver skills, but it looked like the Z06 was pulling on the Cobra until the video cut away. A longer clip would have been nice, but what can you do...

How much does a vet cost and a lot more than a cobra the average guy cant afford a vet, if you look at the dollar amount spent I think their is no comparison dollar for dollar it leans toward the ford thats what makes the cobra so awesome

It is awesome, but since I can't drive it, I get to hold the grudge against it. It's still too small for me, I'm 6'5" tall. I have to stick with an F-body or a Corvette...

If all you want to do is drag race save your money and get the Cobra, but if you take them both through some twisties and the Z06 will show you where that extra money went.

So far, the cost of a couple of tower braces and some more agressive tires, equalling less than $1200, has proven otherwise. These cars were easily paced in the "twisties" by me. To date, the only vehicle that could beat my 03 beast in the twisties has been a 2002 Subaru WRX (awd) and, when the road straigted , it was good night WRX.

Handling Improvements To Date:
1 set BF Goodrich g-force T/A KD tires -- $950
1 Strut Tower Brace (Kenny Brown) -- $200
1 Rear Shock Tower Brace (fabricated Chrom-moly) -- $22 (home made)

total cost for handling improvements: $1172.00
total difference between my Cobra and a Z06: ~$20000.00
with mods the difference is: ~$18,828.00

I'm not one to argue, but you should check out the races in the SCCA T-1 class. The mods you mentioned would certainly help to level the playing field on the backroads, but they do nothing for unsprung weight, the distribution of that weight and the over-all balance of the car. You improved your traction, and stability. The SVT is a great performer, especially for the money. All I'm saying is that the Z06 is better on the race track than the Cobra, stock for stock. Its more expensive because of the superior suspension and because the power is made through normal aspiration, and therefor more reliable. We can agree to disagree and I'm certain that one of us will be proven wrong when the SCCA season starts again. BTW, because I can't afford the Z06 I'm probably going to get the Cobra and do some of the same mods you mentioned. (Michelin Pilots though)

P.S. The Z06 is going for about 48,000 here. And we're getting the Cobras for about 32,500.

I agree with you that stock for stock the Z06 has the upper hand---but the only thing holding back the Cobra's road manners----really----is the front suspension. The k-member is its biggest obstacle. But the Z06 has what can be considered an aftermarket k-member in place---obviously thats a big reason that the handling is superior---and it justifies the $50k tag. However, Kenny Brown has developed a front k-member module with coil overs and a caster/camber setup that--easily if not gives an 01 or 03 cobra a bit of an edge. Thats how good that front module is----I know----I have it on my cobra-----and comapring it to the stock k-member--well, its just an insane comparison. The Z06 is an amazing vehicle for the price $---Viper owners are overpaying big time, in my opinion. But the module that I speak of----costs about $1,600 and thats not bad at all when your 03 coupe is only $36k. I don't agree with your naturally aspirated reliability remark. If you have a high quality blower----like an Eaton, Vortech, or ProCharger----and you have Forged internals-----then blower power is as reliable as aspirated power. As long as you service your vehicle correctly----thats a tough argument to wage.

My brother has been running a blower in his Thunderbird Super Coupe for YEARS reliably -- just changed the belt is all -- re lubed once or twice -- the days of the giant unreliable drag-type blower are over........

The last NA GM car I had was an 82 Olds Cutlass Supreme -- I LIVED UNDER THAT HOOD -- put me off all GM products EVER SINCE!!! And don't tell me it was that car, because I also had an 81 Cutlass that was so bad the main bearings turned -- the engine exploded and caught fire -- the dealer replaced it with that EVIL 82! Well SkylineUSA, so far so good. I have only had the car 6 weeks, only mods so far are I had the bumper insets painted, and all the interior dash pieces that were flat black also painted ( the color of the car ). That's an easy one.
The best wet traction tire and for that matter the best traction tire wet or dry is the Toyo Proxes T1-S

I would have to say that second best tires are the Bridgestone Potenza S-03. I've used both based on recommendations from 5.0 mag & fast fords mag. They were on the money in recommending these rubbers. The Toyos though, unreal for stangs in the rain and dry.

What is the difference in the 1999-2001 and 2003 cobra motors forged pistons forged rods. I want to know since I want to buy a 2001 Cobra and slap on a Kenne Belle on a 2002.

the 01 has hypereutectic pistons. Take it from me----because I blew 2 cobra motors without putting in the blower. Your kenne belle will not last long on your 01 cobra UNLESS you do one very important thing. However, that isn't a guarantee. You need to get a high volume oil pump for the 01 4.6L. That particular engine does not lubricate the engine bearings very well when you are going above 5,000rpm. Basically, if you run it hard, you are going to be out of luck. You defintely are going to need a 7 qt pan. But, honestly, blower failure on the 01 cobra is just becoming to common to alot of 01 owners. The only thing forged in that engine is the crankshaft. The rods, pistons, bearings are just weak. The nuts that keep the rod in place tend to fail with forced induction. All these claims that the 01 can be easily supercharged----are just BS. Because there is a lot of damage to this engine from the forced induction. The info out there on 01 blowing is just very misleading. I had to learn the hard way-----and resorted to buying a forged aluminum block (all forged internals)----from www.dssracing.com. They definetely have the best aftermarket forged modular blocks---and they are blower and NOS ready. If you can-----don't waste your money on the 01---unless you plan on replacing the engine. DEFINTELY bro, I'm warning you. If you aren't going to slap a blower on it, get a high volume oil pump and a 7 qt oil pan. The parts are cheap, but the labor is expensive--because the engine will have to be removed for the oil pump install----but you'll save yourself a lot of stress. If you are going to use a blower-----you better run the minimum boost and you better use an air/air intercooler (don't go with water/air cooler). Even with all this, the 01 internal parts will eventually fail. Just a matter of time.

but I'm aware that they are pretty good dry traction tires. As far as the wet goes, they don't comapre to the Toyos or the Potenza S-03s.

Presently i have a notchbak fox and I am putting together a stock 306 block stock crank, forged rods, Keith Black forged pistons TFS intake heads custom cam and incon twin turbo. But I feel like trashing that and getting a 03 cobra just for the better handling. I have been killing myself over whether I should keep the notch or buy the cobra what do you think.

if you are ready to spend----then its a no brainer to go with the 03. Don't be a fool like me-------who learned the hard way-----how weak a non forged internal block is. My engine was $10K (bullet block from DSSracing) + S-trim vortech $7K. Take the 03.

I had the same isues about handling on my LX. If you spend $2K on Front Coil Overs, PHB, TA, LCA, Konis or Bilsteins, C/C, and rear sway bar you will be amazed at the difference.

I own a GTR, and with my Stang set up with MM's suspension it will hang with it in the corners. On the straights the Stang will win, but I also have not started modding the GTR, yet:)

Don't give up on your Fox, call MM, installation was pretty easy as well.

I own a GTR, and with my Stang set up with MM's suspension it will hang with it in the corners. On the straights the Stang will win, but I also have not started modding the GTR, yet:)

Don't give up on your Fox, call MM, installation was pretty easy as well.

Thanks for the info I just love the sight of a fox road racing. I have been looking at many options for the suspension. I might just keep the fox and use the 40,000.00 for a down payment on a house.

Anyway to a previous question about Nittos. I have the Nitto 555zr and they do okay on dry roads when their nice and warm, when new. But with the 20k miles on them it wont even hook in 2nd gear anymore. There is still good measurable tread left on them, they just loose some of their soft adhesion abilities with age, I guess.

Of course they can swear. There not machines without free will. But, if you break down the word Christian, its basically means Christ Like. Meaning christian should be striving to conform more and more to the Likeness of Christs example. Sure, your going to let a few slip here and there I was just suprised when reading your posts how much swearing you mixed in with Christian theology and stuff. Wasnt trying to poke ya, and no, I dont think cops should be able to go out side the bounds of the law.
