suspension problem

have a 1996 gs when i bought it the car was already lowered . when i hit a bump in the road or a little hole the front and back bang load as if there is nothing in the suspension on the highway i hit a bump the car gets thrown left to right real hard does any one now what the prob is and the best way to fix it.:banghead:

Sounds like a tie rod problem for the pulling problem on top of many others for that lound banging, ball joints most likely...wait for someone else to post first though, im not 100% sure.

If you lower a car too much on stock struts and shocks they will actually bottom out inside of themselves. They were designed to be used with stock springs, not springs that lower them so many inches. The only way to correct it would be to replace your struts and shocks with aftermarket ones designed for shorter springs or to put the factory springs back in... As for the pulling, that sounds like a broken tie rod to me. I'd have a professional give the suspension a shake down though to be certain. :2cents:

that sounds probably right but why would the rear bang so hard should i replace the springs

If the rear is excessively worse than the front then I would say that from the abuse the shocks have been taking from the shorter springs that the shocks have probably blown out and are 100% shot. They will need replaced regardless of what you decide to do.

Then again, it could also just be the sound difference between struts and shocks being bottomed out. But I would lean towards the shocks being shot.

i thank you for your help just bought a few months ago the head gasket was ghanged before i picked it up car runs great besides the banging went 300 miles on half a tank i also have a suv wish that one was any way near that lol
