Tranny Help Please!!!!!!!!1

I have a 96 intrepid. When i have it in cruise and i set my desired point it sits at about 2800 rpm. When i went over a slight hill on the highway with the cruise on it dropped to 2500 and went right back up to 2800, it normally doesn't do this. Ive been suggested it could be the clutch, any ideas would be greatly appretiated. Hopefully it isnt cause im going back to school and i don't need this shit to start now. Thx
