Hey guys, been a while since i've posted here. Well i figured since you guys know your stuff really good, i need help. This is for an si grill i'm painting for my 99 civic. Problem is that i over clear coated it too much and now the color is not as crisp or clear as it used to be. It's just coated too much and looks dull. What can i do to undo the clear coat?

Hit it with some 600, work your way up to 1500 (or 2000 if you want) then go over it with some fine cut rubbing compound.
Also let it cure for about a week and half before doing this, if you dont you'll clog the shit out of the paper very fast.

1500 shit thats way to fine for his app he needs to wet sand with 400 and then cut and buff that baby and it shoul be fine after that. 1500 is for runs in the clear. not fixing a hole grill.

So if sand it just enough to get the last coat of clear off and buff it, it'll look okay? What kind of buffing material should i use and compound?

Wetsand with 600, it will remove the haze (well accually it will look hazier when you finish sanding but thats part of the process) then do it with 720, 1000, and 1500 (you can go up to 2000 if you want, but its probably not going to make that much of a noticeable differnce, just less work with the rubbing compound). 3M makes a rubbing compound that is commonly available at most parts houses in small bottles, get the Fine Cut. Use a terry cloth with the rubbing compound.

Yep, I agree with TSC on this. It will make it a lot more clear when you get done.
I don't agree with TSC's response to Max..not the tone of it, but he is correct. 1500 is for compound, not runs. If you want to use 1500 for runs, your gonna be there all day getting it out. Just about anytime you want to wet sand and buff, you want to finish up with atleast 1500, 2000 does make it alot easier on buffing, but not necessary.

yea I know the feeling man, just watch the tone next time. Its easy to correct them and not use the language you did, just cool down a bit before you posts, usually helps.
Shaguar, glad TSC got you fixed up.
