Making Of: Mercedes AMG G55 - Coolest car ever? you decide.

Hi there!
You haven't been seeing much of me lately, partly due to the lack of digicam, partly due to the lack of modeling on the whole.
Let me at least show you then what I ve been upto these last weeks.
It has been described as a labour of love by some, others saw in it an ultimate blingcar, while a midget described it as the coolest car ever.
Top Gear review. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBoBxvG-3RE)
So what exactly is this stuff I m trying to make?
Basically I wanna start with this kit:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/aloo017.jpg
to make this car...
The fast, very fast
Mercedes AMG G55
(which means, a 5.5 litre engine, V8 Compressed, to produce 500 HP)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/463-030.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/g553.jpg
Needing a trucky to pull my racing trailer (still in the works), I looked through my boxes and decided, hey this might be cool! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/aloo006.jpg
So I just took this car , in the hope it won't look like crap once finished and also hoping to gain some EXP points, so I could finally LEVEL-UP
Before showing the car how it looks now, i d figure I d tease you all with some in between progress shots. These shots were taken at random moments... everything was being worked on at once. When I mean everything, I mean...
The roof needed altering,
Sun roof install
Wide arches needed to be made
Air intake on the front hood needed modifying
Windows needed altering (made bigger)
Molded badges and things removing
rear side needed complete smoothing
Sideskirts and stepping up thingy to be made
Sides needed sharpening and some panellines needed adding
Front side needs lots of change
Scratching grille
Scratching bumpers
Scratching front piece.
And prolly some other stuff I forgot about...
Not a simple 5-minute conversion, eh :screwy:
Stop babbling, on with the pics

's Ok, mister Fubaz, I got the references covered, thanks for the offer, tho!
Here's a mini-in-between update, because I know somebody who loves fuzzy pictures.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/AMG.jpg
BTW, I m still looking for some rim as a base to make this one
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/8e_4.jpg
Oh yeah, btw, I redid the grille stacking styrene instead of using brass tubing, it looks more realistic...
Otherwise, the roof has been finished, i got a roof of a mercedes S600 to go on it.
Otherwise I did smoothing overall and am working full on on the front.

I was thinking of things to do with that kit too. Your idea is a killer one. How about using some of the Maisto stock wheels from an S or M class to start with? Seems to be coming right along so far! Keep up the awsome progress!

You can get the 5.5-litre V8 from the old Tamiya SL kits. if you want to drop one in.
looks sweet. there's one of these down the road from me.

Sweet, I finally got the digicam, so I took some swift shots of how it is now. I did some more smoothing overall and got the roof opening done. Also, the rear and the sides are very close to being finally done.
I just need to concentrate now on making the front part, rear part with the tyre cover and the bumpers.
I ll keep you updated!

yes, yes, yes ;) it will be super G-class model !
And You should cut engine hood and use tamiya's SL500 engine (or tamiya's SEL/SEC600 engine). Will it be painted black whit chrome parts ?
Nice idea !

I intended to start the very same conversion to mimic the G55 I drove while I was working for AMG - it was dark green with mudguards and NO markings at all.
Driving this thing is not that easy - because you constantly have to wipe that demented grin out of your face :jump3:
Cheers from Germany

I've been thinking about the exact same thing a while back, but never come to realization due to school and work. What color you will do yours in?
Please finish this project and live my dream for me.... hahaha..... Great job overall....

Here is a little update for you all!
I am currently working on the front bumper, which is quite different from the stock one. I have used the parts from the original kit as a base to changeing things.
I left openings for the aeration parts and for the lights, which will be added. Also, I made a spare-tyrecover, but I am actually hoping to give you pictures of the truck in primer tomorrow. for now, bye!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/makingof001.jpg
here i cut off the little pieces on the sides, to add them later, as they have some stepping to it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/makingof004.jpg
widened front bumper, with piece that holds the stuff on it on a right angle.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/makingof003.jpg
unsanded outside of the bumper
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/bigfrit/makingof005.jpg
ugly as hell bumper testfit.

Hey guys, Here we go again!
After a looooong time that i haven't touched a plastic model... I got slightly busy.
Here's what this car is looking like right now.
Basically, it received bumpers that are holding on in a crooked position.
I have found the one flaw in the front that makes the car look too friendly and I m going to fix that soonish.
Otherwise, it's a g-wagon, yo.

Yeah, you are right. The bumper is not glued on, nor completely finished yet, as iis the entire car... really :)
And on the colors, well, I totally haven't got any idea. But let me first think about finishing this car, and then we'll see :)
